The Yamaha FGX5 red label electro-acoustic guitar brings back a '60s classic with A.R.E. aged wood and incredible Yamaha Atmosfeel electronics.

A New Generation of FG Red Label

Yamaha released their first ever steel string guitars back in the 1960s. These legendary instruments came to be known as the Yamaha "red label guitars" due to the distinctive label found within the soundhole.

Played on stage at Woodstock, these Yamaha red label guitars were a huge milestone in Yamaha's storied guitar building history.

Now, combining premium wood, expert craftsmanship and cutting edge technology, the Yamaha FGX5 electro-acoustic guitar brings the amazing Yamaha FG red label guitar range roaring into the 21st century.

A.R.E. Treated Wood

For the solid top of the Yamaha FGX5, Yamaha have opted for Sitka Spruce. One of the most popular tonewoods in guitar building, Spruce is renowned for its broad tonal range, strength and flexibility.

The incredible tone and performance of this wood is made even better thanks to Yamaha's Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (or A.R.E.) process.

The wood is "aged" using carefully controlled heat, humidity and pressure to give you the sound and response of a much older guitar in a brand new Yamaha FGX5.

As a result, you get greater resonance, increased sustain and all-around improved tone.

Solid Mahogany has been used for the back and sides, complementing the Sitka Spruce top with its beautiful visual contrast while adding increased volume and augmented trebles for gorgeously rich tone.

Dreadnought Style Acoustic with New Bracing Pattern

Dreadnought guitars are hugely popular due to their fantastic versatility and strong low end.

The Yamaga FGX5 is able to produce beautifully deep and rounded tone making it perfect for strumming style performance so it's ideal for rhythm guitarists and singer-songwriters.

Within the dreadnought style body of the Yamaha FGX5 is a new bracing pattern based on that found in the popular FG-180 50th Anniversary reissue.

Yamaha have taken this bracing pattern and experimented to find to find the best possible tone and performance and optimised the pattern for the wood and body shape of the Yamaha FGX5.

Atmosfeel Electronics

Allowing you to plug in the Yamaha FGX5 and enjoy beautifully resonant tone is the new Atmosfeel 3-way pickup and preamp system.

A piezo sensor has been installed in the bridge to capture the low frequencies while a microphone captures the low and mid range. Capturing the high frequencies is a proprietary contact sensor pickup.

While many pickup systems leave your guitar sounding lifeless, dull and brittle, the Atmosfeel system gives you full and natural tone.

Simple controls are on hand so you can get the exact sound you want with ease.

Using the Microphone Blend control you can dial in how much of the microphone sound you want in the mix. Turn the knob fully clockwise to get 50% of your signal from the microphone sound and the rest from the piezo and contact sensor combined. Turn the knob fully clockwise to remove the microphone from the signal entirely.

A Bass EQ knob is also present so you can control the peaking EQ with the centre frequency raising when boosting and lowering when you turn it down. This prevents the problematic low frequencies, which can cause havoc when on stage, from being added to your sound.

Lastly, there's a Master Volume knob for you so you've got full control over your output level.

Performance Enhancing Features

An African Mahogany neck is attached to the body of the FGX5 and has a matt finish offering a wonderfully smooth grip.

Stronger and more durable than Rosewood, Ebony has been used for the fretboard with its smooth surface providing a fantastic playing surface for speedy performance.

Ebony has also been used for the bridge and bridge pins which offer amazingly efficient transfer of vibration from your strings to the Yamaha FGX5's solid top.

Genuine bone has been used for both the nut and saddle, further enhancing energy transfer from your strings to the FGX5's neck and body.

As a result, you get more volume with beautifully natural, clear tone and increased sustain.

Up on the classic Yamaha FG style headstock, you'll find six Gotoh open gear machine heads providing precise and secure tuning of your strings along with vintage aesthetics.

Paying tribute to its heritage, the Yamaha FGX5 also boasts a truss rod cover emblazoned with "Since 1966"; the year the original Yamaha FG guitars were introduced.
