The Tama Starclassic Maple 10x8" Tom is part of the Starclassic Maple series from Tama, featuring a set of high-quality maple shells with a unique and striking silver snow racing stripe finish. The kit features 6-ply toms with an 8-ply bass drum, each with an outer ply of figured maple.
High-quality chrome hardware includes die-cast hoops and claw hooks, offering consistent and reliable tuning throughout your performances. The figured maple shells offer a distinct tonal warmth, accompanied by a stunning natural resonance, making the kit ideal for a wide range of drumming styles and genres, from heavy rock to smooth jazz.

Shell
For the optimum transfer of vibrations from the head to the shell, a thinner shell is better. However, less thickness often equals less strength. Instead of simply making thinner shells by using fewer plies.
Tama slims down each ply and then cross laminates them into a 6ply 5mm thick shell (8ply 7mm bass drum). This combination results in a thinner shell that are stronger than others of greater thickness. Starclassic shells utilize maple, the most popular shell material today because of its warm clear sound.
Living On The Edge
The edge is cut to a round collar to follow the natural shape of the drumhead (B). This design, which creates a better fit between the drumhead and bearing edge, maximizes the resonance of the drum. This bearing edge shape is part of our TAMA tradition and is crucial in providing TAMA's unique drum sound.
The shape of the edge is one of the most important factors which affect drum sound. Because the drumheads provide an important source of vibration, the shape of the contact point of the head and shell determines and defines the sound. This is why TAMA has worked so extensively on achieving the most functional shape for the drum head and edge.
Quick Lock
For a faster setup and easy breakdown, Tama has come up with a genius idea, the Quick-Lock system. Once you have set your position, to break down you simply flick the lock switch, and away you go, no need to go around your drum kit and tighten memory locks. Rubber linings reduce vibration transference to the tom stands or floor tom legs; further isolating the drums and enhancing resonance.
Hoops
Star drums feature die-cast zinc hoops which are denser and have a more consistent shape due to their manufacturing process of being molded and not bent into shape like triple-flanged hoops.
They also provide a much more articulated attack with lots more projection and a focused tone. Die-cast also make tuning a lot easier due to their density and consistency.
