The Martin OMJM John Mayer signature electro-acoustic guitar. Following John Mayer’s increasingly positive reputation and ever expanding fan base amongst the guitar playing community, Martin have released a second John Mayer signature guitar and this is one incredible instrument.
Martin OMJM John Mayer Signature Guitar
A year after John Mayer exploded onto the music scene, Martin Guitars stepped in and collaborated with him on the incredible Martin OM-28JM John Mayer Signature Edition.
Due to how well made this guitar the OM-28JM is, the guitar was extremely popular even with guitarists that weren’t familiar with John Mayer’s work. Unsurprisingly, the limited edition of 404 sold out fast.
To appease the increasing fan base, Martin and John Mayer have collaborated again to produce the Martin OMJM – a new John Mayer signature guitar that shares many of the appointments that made the original OM-28JM so popular while being more widely available and affordable.
Great Craftsmanship
Similar to its predecessor the OM-28JM, the new Martin OMJM John Mayer signature edition features a solid Engelmann Spruce top that has uniquely designed hybrid, Spruce scalloped bracing. This results in a very secure build for the guitar and enhances the rich, full sound of the OMJM.
Indian Rosewood has been used to craft the back and sides of the OMJM. In terms of aesthetics, this beautiful, dark wood contrasts nicely with the lighter Engelmann Spruce top while tonally helping to to contribute to a warm, rich sound.
The harmonic structure of Indian Rosewood allows for it to produce smooth overtones that work great in conjunction with the solid Engelmann Spruce top and hybrid Spruce bracing.
Great Playability
The body of the OMJM is an Orchestra Model size so it is extremely comfortable to hold and to play whether you’re standing with a strap or sitting with it in your lap. This smaller body size increases your reach and comfort of playing so you can play for longer without feeling discomfort and you can focus more on your playing.
The low-profile neck has a wonderfully smooth satin finish while the frets have undergone the coveted Plek fret dressing treatment. The Plek Pro is an incredible, high-tech tool that has been developed for guitar production factories. The result of Plek Pro treatment is a fantastic fret dressing that significantly improves the playability of the Martin OMJM.
Premium Touches
Enhancing the tone and overall quality of the Martin OMJM are a number of premium features. Firstly, there is the bone nut – a nice throwback to traditional luthiery while also improving sustain.
Keeping stable and precise intonation while offering optimum transfer of string vibration into the body is a compensated TUSQ saddle.
TUSQ is a brilliant material, further offering fantastic resonance transfer with similar traits to traditional bone and actual tusk but is much more tonally uniform as it does not have the natural grain of bone and tusk.
Nickel, open-geared Gotoh tuners allow for quick, precise and absolutely secure tuning of your strings while adding a great vintage look to the headstock.
An African Ebony fretboard gives you an incredible playing experience and due to the natural qualities of Ebony you will have a fretboard that will last years, providing you fantastic bright tones.
Incredible electronics in the form of the Fishman Gold Plus Natural I perfectly amplify the sound of the OMJM – enhancing the natural sound and give you an authentic amplified performance of this wonderful instrument.
