Despite only being in production for less than a decade (1983 to 1991), the BOSS HM-2 has remained a firm favourite with metal players in the decades that followed, due to its uniquely aggressive tone.
This often sought-after distortion pedal can be heard on tracks ranging from mainstream pop to shoegaze over the decades, and is now making a welcome return as part of the illustrious Waza Craft lineup, in the shape of the HM-2W.

A Legend Reborn
This pedal is often affectionately referred to as the progenitor of the "Chainsaw Sound" that was first made famous on the Entombed album Left Hand Path, the origins of which remained largely unknown until some 18 years later. The secret to that sound? A BOSS HM-2 with ALL of the dials turned up to full... it was that simple!
In the years since then, the price of the originals has sky-rocketted, and with the demand for the pedal at an all-time high, BOSS have decided now was the time for a re-release.
Standard And Custom Modes
A key improvement upon the original would be the inclusion of two different modes to choose from: Standard Mode and Custom Mode.
When set to Standard mode, the HM-2W produces an authentic reproduction of the tone and response of the original HM-2, so if it's that Swedish Metal "Chainsaw" sound you're after, set it to Standard and turn ALL of the controls up to full!
Custom Mode is where things begin to get a little more tasty, with a similar sound character to Standard mode, only with just a little more of... well... everything! That means a drive stage with more gain and more fundamental guitar sounds for increased attack and sharpness, as well as tweaked low and high-mid characteristics for increased definition.
