The Yamaha Stage Custom 14 x 6.5" has been around the block a few times and is always popping up in studios and drummers' snare arsenal. Why? because it is an absolute beauty of a drum. As ever the build quality with Yamaha products is second to none and for the price you are getting 10 lugs, not 8, this increases the tuning range buy quite a lot on both top and bottom heads.
Sound-wise what helps this snare out a lot is the bead around the center of the drum, with steel being a higher more ringy material, the bead is there to control that demographic and dry out the overall tone the shell produces. What this has done is increase the audible articulation, the drum is crisp and sings in all three standard tuning ranges, low, medium, and high.
