The Performer

This series was introduced to the Tama line-up to make professional-quality drums accessible to all. You could see them as the middle step from your 'beginner' drums toward the higher end of the market drums.

Tama's New Hybrid Drum Shell

An expertly-engineered blend of maple and birch. Both tonewoods combine to produce an exciting range of snare drum tones.

These shells feature 4 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of maple. Maple is one of the most popular cuts for drums the world over, due to its warm, bright sounds and tonal versatility.

Meanwhile, birch offers cutting projection and unmatched levels of attack. Those inner layers of maple are the sweetness at the core of the Performer Snare, with the power of the outer birch layers helping you project your playing to the world.

In Use

This snare is a beauty and versatile, low tuning you get this woody chunky guttural tone with the snare wires getting down to every back beat, ghost notes are very present, dry, and articulated.

Medium tuning, well most snare drums sing in a medium tuning as you are getting the best of both worlds, but the dryness of these snares makes them easy to control, maybe a moongel on there if you really want to but maybe let this snare sing, no real overtones and this tuning either or at least nothing overly offensive.

Higher tuning the urge to not play any Abe Cunningham beat is tough to control! even at this tuning the snare doesn't choke up or whimp out instead it's asking for more, really great rim shots and again a brilliant dryness to keep articulation.

Sensitivity across all the tuning ranges is fantastic, you can really put some power into this snare drum line and you can also hold it right back and still get some beautiful tones, an absolute winner if you ask us here at PMT
