Strong Thin Maple Shell Construction
Designed in the 1980's, the engineers at Tama decided they wanted a drum kit that transcended trends, a kit that would be everlasting, always with the performing drummer in mind and thus the Starclassic was born.
Evolving over the years to meet the changing perspective of the drummer, the Starclassic Drum kit has become a classic kit in the drumming world, meeting all the demands of the modern drummer.
The options are numerous, including a selection of more than 30 different shell sizes and three shell hardware finishes as well as a huge range of colours, giving the drummer the to control to complete their preferential vision.
The shells are crafted from the finest maple, one of the most popular shell materials because of its warmth resonance and crystal clear sound. To get the perfect transfer of vibrations from the drum head to the shell, the thinner shell performs better. Unfortunately, lees thickness can equal less strength.
Those clever lab coats at Tama overcame this by simply making thinner shells by using fewer plies. The slimmed down each ply and then cross laminates them into 6-ply 5mm on the toms and 8-Ply 7mm on the bass drum shell. This combination results in a thinner shell that's actually stronger than others of greater thickness.
Star-Cast Mounting System
The Tama Starclassic features the Star-Cast Mounting System which has always delivered the greatest resonance and stability for TAMA's pro-drum series. Matched with the drums hardware, the slim-design makes positioning the toms closer together easier for a more comfortable playing style, and being made out aluminium makes them more lightweight.
Quick-Lock Brackets
Quick-Lock brackets are installed on both tom toms and the floor tom which allow a quick and easy set-up and final disassembly. The Floor Tom feet feature air pockets which is like air suspension, eliminating the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which cuts sustain and tone) and absorbs shock for better playing, and floor tom stability. All tension bolts are equipped with Tama Hold Tight washers for tuning stability.
Evans Skins
The drum heads that are equipped with Starclassic Maple Drums are from the Evans G2 (drum heads), G1 (resonance heads) and EQ4 (bass drum) series. Providing balance, durability and a solid sound, these heads work perfectly with this Tama Kit.
