The SPL Elector Analogue Preamplifier, seen here in the Silver is a pure analogue preamp that draws on the same circuitry found in SPL's Director Mk2 Preamp and Converter. It boasts two VU meters that directly display levels from any connected source. These meters feature a mechanical design that slows down the measurement process, effectively averaging out short-duration peaks and providing a more accurate representation of perceived loudness or energy compared to many traditional designs.

Addressing the concerns of audio professionals regarding the diminishing availability of tape monitor options in modern preamps, SPL's engineers have incorporated a stereo return and send on the rear panel of the Elector. This enables the use of a tape monitor stage and allows for the insertion of external signal processing equipment like equalizers to further fine-tune the sound.

To mitigate potential distortion or peaks that may occur when consumer tape machines encounter the levels typically handled by the Elector, a level calibration switch is provided on the rear of the unit. This switch can reduce outgoing levels by 10 dB while simultaneously raising the levels at the return stage, ensuring that no drop in level occurs and preventing any adverse effects.

The Elector offers six analogue inputs, three of which are balanced with 3-pin XLR connectors and marker LED indicators. Additionally, the rear of the unit features two sets of outputs: one direct set and one dedicated to preamp routing, both employing balanced XLR connections.

Staying true to analogue tradition, the Elector is equipped with two mechanical VU meters that are optimized for displaying various signal levels.

The volume stage of the Elector benefits from SPL's signature 120 V rail, delivering ample headroom and minimal distortion. The external volume control itself features a large RK27 'Big Blue' potentiometer manufactured by ALPS, ensuring a tactile and precise feel while maintaining intelligent channel matching.

The Elector also provides the convenience of a highly programmable remote control for volume adjustment. By using the 'Learn IR-Remote' button on the rear of the chassis, users can reassign different buttons to suit their preferences. Further details on this functionality can be found in the Elector's User Manual.
