The SPL DeS Dual Band DeEsser 500-Series is a module designed for the 500 series format, offering a dual-band de-esser that utilizes phase cancellation to reduce sibilance, rather than relying on dynamic control.
Expanding on this concept, the SPL DeS incorporates two frequency bands that can be used individually or in combination. By incorporating two de-esser stages, the effectiveness is enhanced while ensuring minimal audible artefacts. The high and low bands provide precise and focused sibilance processing. The input signals are automatically adjusted to maintain consistent processing throughout. Additionally, a Male/Female mode switch adjusts the frequency response of the processor to accommodate typical male and female vocal ranges.
Both the low and high bands are connected in series as independent modules, each with its dedicated on/off switch. The low band is positioned first in the signal chain and affects the signal fed into the high band.
The original SPL De-esser gained immense popularity among engineers, producers, and broadcast stations in the 1990s, and the SPL DeS builds upon that legacy by offering even more advanced features and functionality.
