The SPL Crescendo is a remarkable 8-channel microphone preamp that delivers unparalleled transparency, a vast dynamic range, and exceptionally low distortion. This compact unit occupies just 3U of 19" rack space while offering outstanding recording capabilities, capturing even the finest nuances with precision.
SPL's commitment to technical innovation is evident in the Crescendo. The differential amplifiers employ carefully matched transistor pairs and are thermally coupled to achieve an impressively low level of thermal distortion. The discrete output stage op-amps operate with a 6mA dormant current, meeting the Class-A operation standard.
A specially selected toroidal transformer power supply, shielded with custom-fabricated sheeting integrated into the Crescendo's housing, ensures minimal electrical interference and prevents power noise from affecting the preamps' performance.
Each of the eight preamp channels on the Crescendo can be independently operated and provides essential features found in modern studio preamps, including gain control, polarity reverse, 48V phantom power, a 20dB pad for handling high-level signals, and a dedicated VU meter for each channel.
To accommodate a wide range of microphones, the microphone gain of each channel can be adjusted from 18 to 70dB, allowing sufficient headroom even for low-output sources like ribbon microphones.
With SPL's specially developed 120V technology powered by high-voltage SUPRA op-amps, the Crescendo offers an incredible operating headroom that makes it virtually impossible to overdrive the preamps. The preamp circuitry can handle rapid transients, amplifying them faithfully.
