Introducing SPL Channel One, a versatile toolkit designed to prepare vocals, instruments, and both digital and analogue audio sources for mixing. Channel One is equipped with a tube/solid-state preamp, DeEsser, compressor limiter, EQ, and even a dedicated headphone monitoring section, providing artists with an independent mix.
The dynamic processing section of Channel One features an intelligent noise gate that seamlessly operates without cutting off reverb tails. The compressor/limiter, based on SPL's proprietary Double-VCA-Drive circuitry, delivers exceptional noise and distortion characteristics, imbuing the audio with a truly musical timbre.
The EQ in Channel One is carefully tailored for voices, acoustic instruments, and electronic sounds. In addition to the standard low, mid-high, and air-band filters, the EQ includes a field-effect distortion stage, offering subtle signal distortion and additional character to the sources.
Channel One offers an array of options to assist recording engineers and producers in refining sources before the mixing stage.
The DeEsser section in Channel One effectively addresses sibilance issues by specifically processing the S-type frequencies. This ensures that undesired information is selectively removed without compromising the overall vocal tonality. The DeEsser in SPL's Channel One incorporates an auto-threshold feature, intelligently compensating for volume variations in the source, accommodating vocalists with varying techniques.
The preamp section of Channel One boasts three dedicated inputs, each optimized for a wide range of sources. The balanced microphone input provides 48V phantom power for condenser microphones, phase reverse functionality, and an onboard subsonic filter. The line input features a precise balancing stage for low-impedance sources. Additionally, the high-impedance, low-noise instrument input is conveniently located on the front panel, easily accessible for recording or control room musicians.
