Pearl President Deluxe 14" x 5.5" Snare Drum, Ocean Ripple
First things first, just look at it the vintage feels are all over this beauty of a snare drum, coming in at 14" x 5.5" it screams play me with its Ocean Ripple finish which is fit for any stage. The shell consists of 6-ply Lauan which sounds awesome and will give you an immersive vintage response of phat rich tone, great resonance but still nice and dry with just enough 'chunkyness' to pick up those ghost notes, any extra unwanted overtones can be sorted in a blink of an eye with the internal muffling system which itself is super easy and simple to use. tuning wise we would highly recommend a low - medium tuning, not to saying putting this snare in the higher range is poor believe us it also sings when cranked up there, but, the low - medium range is where this Pearl Deluxe snare drum is really punching above parr, with just 8 lugs its also super easy to tune. Speaking of lugs, they are the old school style Battleship lugs which are designed to reduce physical contact with the shell minimising any restriction to there movement being full length and not split lugs so to maximise the beefy full bodied sounds.
Hardware
The Deluxe snare sports the ever so popular triple-flanged Pearl Superhoop II's which usually would allow the snare heads to resonate alot more freely and to get every last bit of vibration from the head. These hoops however are thicker at 2.3mm so with the little extra added mass these hoops subtly dampen ringy overtones of the head to focus more on the shells vintage tone they also offer a great playing surface for rimshots and cross stick brings out the shells thick tone. As mentioned before the 8 sturdy Battleship lugs keep the drum in check with its tuning and are designed with minimal contact to the shell as possible meaning they have a hollow body but still have super quality engineering to be sturdy, do a job and last. The SR017 snare trainer does exaclty what it says on the tin, super simple to use and extra smooth in use, getting the same results with the no fuss internal muffling simplicity is king with this snare drum and is fast growing into peoples collection.
Bearing edges
45-Degree bearing edges are an industry standard when it comes to snares, these edges have a 1ply thick edge on the outter part that goes into the 45-degree edge so creating a 'Sharp' baring edge, this means there is less contact with the head and shell giving a lot more attack and enhancing the fuller low-range of the shell which can be easily taken away using the dampening system, no need for gaffa tape here!
