Easy External Drum Dampening
If you like the sound of your drum kit but aren’t too happy with the ring or overtones it produces, the Min-EMAD system from Evans is a great option to consider.
There are a variety of external drum dampeners on the market but many of them can become sticky or can affect the feel of your drums when you use them. The Evans Min-EMAD avoids those problems while still offering sufficient dampening of unwanted ring.
Featuring the same name as their extremely popular EMAD bass drum range, the Evans Min-EMAD strips offer the same amount of versatility, allowing the user to set the dampening amount to their desired level.
Dial In The Damping
By linking the vibrating drum head with the hoop, the Min-EMAD works to remove frequencies by resisting the motion of the drum head.
One end of the Min-EMAD strip attaches to the hoop while the other sticks to a small velcro dot which is fastened to the batter head of the drum. You can then position the strip to dial in the amount of dampening you want.
Minimal contact provides less dampening for a slightly reduced ring, while maximum contact offers extreme dampening for a dead sound. You can alter the effect simply by varying the contact between the strip and the batter head.
For times when you don’t require dampening, you can even stick the strip to itself on the hoop.
