Proprietary Build

DW utilise their proprietary shell building process in the construction of their Performance kits.

Developed by the DW Custom Shop team and DW vice president John Good, the DW HVX process blends the latest grain orientation technology with hand selected wood to produce kits that deliver rich resonance, piercing projection and punchy bottom end tone.

The grain orientation method involves alternating the grain direction of each ply as they’re placed into the mould in order to achieve drum shells with super strength and shape integrity.

The mould is then oven baked under pressure before being moved to a pressurized cooler to ensure the glue crystallizes as quickly as possible.

The result is a set of drum shells that harden to perfect cylinders to provide improved tuning range and ample resonance.

Sound Aiding Support

In addition to it’s striking style and rich resonant shells, this DW Performance kit features innovative hardware which has been specifically designed to aid the tone of the drums.

The 12” rack tom is fitted with the patented DW Suspension Tom Mount system to provide strong support for the tom without negatively affecting its resonance and sustain.

The mount fixes to the rack tom via 4 lug points to maintain complete isolation from the tom shell.

By keeping the metal mount and the wooden shell separate, the tom is allowed to vibrate freely to ensure maximum resonance and well-rounded tom tone.

Furthermore, the mount prevents choking and aids easier tuning because it doesn’t include any washers or grommets that could inhibit the lug rod receivers.

The result is a rack tom that offers optimum sustain whilst being reliably positioned and supported.

True-Pitch Tensioning

Offering astonishing attention to detail, this Drum Workshop Performance kit is fitted with patented true-pitch tension rods.

These special tension rods utilise a 5mm thread as opposed to the 12/24 thread that is more commonly used.

The result of this difference in thread means that, the true-pitch rods have one thread positioned every 0.8mm compared to the one thread every 1.05mm you’d find on standard tension rods.

This 20% thread increase allows you to dial in more precise tuning to ensure you achieve the exact drum sound you need across the whole kit.

DW By Remo

As with all DW Performance kits, this 3-piece maple kit comes fitted with DW by Remo USA drumheads as standard.

The two toms are fitted with coated/clear batter heads and have clear resonant heads, while the bass drum features a coated/clear batter with an inlay ring for improved focus and an Ebony resonant logo vented head.

The specifically created DW Coated/Clear heads have a mainly clear design but feature an integrated coated tone ring to offer just the right amount of muffling while still providing ample sustain.

All the Remo drumheads have crimped flesh hoops to offer increased durability and maximum vibration.
