The DW Design Series 14 x 5.5" Snare Drum is the perfect snare for stage and studio. The DW Design Series snare is constructed from 10-ply North American maple, arranged in DW's proprietary HVX grain orientation. This provides an incredibly warm and present tone with a low-mid punch and plenty of crisp articulation. With incredible versatility, the DW Drums Design Series Snare blasts through the mix in any style and in any setting with an impeccable response.
The DW Design Series Snare Drum is fitted with true-pitch tuning screws with fine threads to allow you to find the perfect tuning for your desired sound. Additionally, a MAG throw-off drops the snares instantly without causing any unwanted buzzing sound - this allows you to quickly change timbre during a performance.
Hardware
The all-new MAG has a purposefully simple design with a chrome finish. The MAG throw-off features a horizontal tension adjustment and a smooth easy-adjust action. A clever magnet is integrated into the body of the throw-off which prevents the throw-off from releasing if you accidentally knock it. When the throw-off is released, it throws the strainer completely off the head to avoid any strainer buzz.
3mm Chrome Standard Triple Flange Hoops give these drums a versatile sound that suits all types of players from jazz and funk to rock and hip hop. However, the inclusion of DW's sought-after True Pitch tuning rods took the Design Series Snare's range through the roof. The rods feature 5mm threads rather than the 12/24 that's standard on most other drums. To compare, there is 1 thread every 0.8mm on their True Pitch rods (about 20 more threads), versus 1 thread every 1.05mm on most other drums. The result is a more exacting tuning process.
