HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST PA GEAR FOR YOUR NEEDS

Great sound is essential. It can make or break the reputation of any venue, as well as determine the success of an artist's performance. Therefore it's important to choose the right PA System for your needs: neither too quiet nor too loud. Portable PA Systems are a great choice for solo performers and buskers who want to be able to play anywhere, with the same consistent setup, but also a cheap PA system option for small pubs and other smaller venues where a bigger PA is not essential, but only used occasionally for events such as open mic nights, acoustic music, bingo nights or public speech.

PA Packages are one step up from portable ones, and may include louder, bigger and heavier gear. These can provide enough power for live gigs in small rooms, and are a great money-saving option, as they'll include everything you need including power amplifier. Even if you don't use a PA often, in the long run, it's always the best solution, instead of having to resort to PA hire for occasional events, besides the fact that a good live PA helps small venues such as cafes and pubs to attract more people, by allowing them to run regular events!

HUGE MICROPHONE SELECTION

It's a waste of money to get a great PA if you make a poor choice of microphones! Thankfully, PMT Online has an excellent selection of great-quality mics, including top brands as AKGSamsonSennheiser and, of course, Shure, who make the most popular PA microphones ever - the SM58 and SM57. A good, basic PA will need at least 3 dynamic mics, while a great professional setup should have more than that and also include some condenser and ribbon mics, to cover any possible live gig needs.

WHY USE A WIRELESS SYSTEM?

Increasingly more performers are opting to use their own wireless systems. Prices have been going down the past few years, while the quality's been up, and many performers prefer the freedom a wireless system gives them - not just in terms of moving around, but also so they can enjoy a much better monitoring, controlling their own in-ear monitoring.

FRONT OF HOUSE PA GEAR: MIXING DESKS, LIGHTING, SIGNAL PROCESSORS & FX

The Front Of House gear is also crucial in any PA. It's where you control what the audience you hear, after all! PMT is proud to stock everything you'll need: Mixing Desks are essential to control the levels of different microphones and instruments, as well as for EQ-ing. Good Signal Processors and FX will add a new dimension to the sound, making everything sound better. And, finally, Stage Lighting is very important to create that magical element of any gig or performance - the right atmosphere!

SPEAKER STANDS, CABLES & ACCESSORIES

Besides all the most important PA Gear we also stock everything else you need to run things smoothly, with plenty of speaker standscables and other PA accessories to choose from. At PMT Online we really provide all you'll ever need!

Guitar Amp FAQs

  • What kind of guitar amp is right for me?

Pick a guitar amp based on what sort of sound you are aiming for. By taking a look at what some of your favourite bands and guitarists are using you can get a good idea of the type of amplifier you need.
  • What size guitar amp is best for me?

Choose the size of your amplifier based on how you plan to use it. For practicing at home, pick something under 20w. If you are gigging at small venues, 20-50w will suffice, and anything bigger will probably be best for larger venues.
  • How do I connect two guitar amps together?

The easiest way to use two guitar amps is with an A/B/Y switch. This allows you to play through either amp (A or B) or both (Y).
  • Can I use a guitar amp for electronic drums?

Whilst this is possible, it is not advisable due to the extended range of frequencies that will be produced by an electronic drum kit. Guitar amps are designed to handle a specific set of frequencies and they can be damaged by those outside of this range.
  • Should I get a combo amp or head amp?

Guitar heads must be used with a matching cabinet in order to produce a sound. If you use a cabinet, an amplifier head will be what you need. A combo contains both an amplifier and a speaker and therefore can be used just with the guitar.
  • What are the best inexpensive guitar amps?

Some of the best inexpensive guitar amps are produced by Fender, Marshall, Blackstar, BOSS, and Vox.
