The team at VOX could never imagine how popular the VOX AC15 amplifiers would become when they first exploded onto the music scene back in 1958. Since it first appeared on that stage with the likes of Hank Marvin and The Shadows, the humble yet extremely powerful VOX AC15 amplifier has been relied upon by countless artists spanning all genres. Versatile, powerful and still portable, this is a great all rounded valve amplifier combo with plenty of tone available.
The AC15 was VOX's very first amplifier, originally known as the AC1/15 and produced in 1958. For over 50 years, this amp has been providing superb quality valve sound for musicians all over the planet. Although smaller and more portable than its older brother the VOX AC30, the VOX AC15 still provides that iconic VOX AC sound, just at a lower volume that we can use at home, in studio and of course, in the live arena. This is the sound of the VOX AC series in a smaller, yet equally as responsive combo amp.
The VOX AC15 provides players with a twin-channel design - Normal and Top Boost. Each of these custom channels are equipped with their own Volume control whilst the Top Boost channel provides players with complete control via Treble and Bass knobs. You have everything you need to sculpt your ideal tone including Master Volume, Master Tone Cut, Normal Volume, Top Boost Volume, Top Boost Bass, Top Boost Treble, Speaker Level, Tremolo (Depth, Speed). Need a heavy, gritty sound? No problem. Want smooth cleans? Sure thing. This can handle it all and everything in between.
The VOX AC15 Custom Series gets its huge sound from 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and a pair of EL84 tubes in the power stage which drives 15 watts of power through a single 12” Celestion Speaker. That's more than enough for a live show and the stages of the world - but the amp can still be tamed thanks to a Master Volume switch for that valve amp tone at lower volumes. Crank the Top Boost and dig in with your playing and the valves will glow beautifully, providing that saturated tube sound we love. Lower the volume on your guitar and enjoy crystal clear, glass-like cleans that capture every nuance of your playing.
The VOX AC15 Custom Series amplifiers come in two different speaker setups. You can choose either the VOX AC15C1 with a G12M Greenback speaker or the VOX AC15C1X packed with an Alnico Blue Speaker. The Greenback provides a dirtier, bassier sound akin to the sounds of the 70s, whereas the Alnico Blue provides a subtler clarity and chime - the choice is yours!
The team at VOX understands that we all need a little more power sometimes. With that in mind, the VOX AC15 Custom Series has a built in 2nd output jack which is an extension speaker jack. This allows you to hook up an extra 16 ohm cabinet alongside the internal speakers for a fuller, fatter sound. You also have a switchable 8/16ohm jack for powering an external speaker whilst muting the internal speakers, should you need to.
As with the bigger VOX AC30, the VOX AC15 Custom Series benefits from a built-in Tremolo and a Spring Reverb for tonal variety. The Tremolo can be manipulated with speed and depth controls whilst the Reverb can go from slight roomy space to completely drenched hall sounds. Both effects can be activated via the control panel or by the VOX VFS2A footswitch (sold separately).
