Introduced in 1974, the Yamaha SG series of guitars have been granted cult status. An early association with Carlos Santana proved the Japanese created guitars were competitive with the USA made counterparts, drawing attention to the fine craftsmanship that they truly deserve.
The Yamaha SG-1820A guitar in black was designed with modern influences in mind and was created for the guitarist that wants high-spec, modern playability and stunning looks.
Body Construction
The basic structure of a maple top with a mahogany back shaped has been preserved with the original Yamaha SG double cutaway design. The body of the SG-1820A has been modified to slim-down its looks by contouring the top curves more deeply than on the previous models. This maximises the string to body resonance from the bridge and tailpiece. The deep curve also keeps the weight balance optimised and amplifys its impressive look.
The back contour has been modified to form a flat back on this version of the SG-1820A increasing the volume of mahogany enhancing the low and midrange presence, and being feeling more comfortable when the guitar is played a lower stance.
A mahogany neck features with a rosewood fingerboard, making the fretting of this guitar easy and comfortable instilling confidence on the artist wielding this axe on stage or in the studio.
EMG Pickups
The SG-1820A has two high-gain EMG pickups installed, fitted in the neck and bridge. The EMG85 pickup is fitted to the neck, featuring a alnico 5 magnet, it produces a direct and crispy tone with more bite. The ceramic magnet EMG81 pickup in the bridge delivers distinctive aggression and a high output for fat slugging chords. The combination of these two pickups gives the Yamaha a wholly modern sounding, articulate output with immense detail cutting through any mix.
Tone Pro Stability
The vibration of the guitar’s body is enhanced by the Tonepros’ lighter bridge and tailpiece design by cutting down the mass of the metal components. The locking design ensures the bridge and tailpiece are securely fixed for perfect vibration transfer, delivering maximum sustain and improved clarity.
