Versatile Tones, Classic Top Boost
Two distinct channels are on offer with Vox AC15HW1; Normal and the classic Top Boost.
The Normal channel on the AC15HW1 gives you exactly what you want from a channel named as such.
You get a pure and straight forward tone, with a dedicated volume control and a bright switch. Using the bright switch, you can add a sprinkling of extra sparkle to your high end.
Next there’s the Top Boost channel, giving you the signature Vox sound that really made a name for itself in the ‘60s.
In addition to the volume control on the Top Boost channel, you can also adjust the Treble and Bass for further tone tailoring.
Keep It Cool or Make It Hot
You will also find the Top Boost channel boasts a new HOT/COOL switch.
Keeping the switch set to COOL mode, you get the classic Vox sound you know and love.
Switch over to HOT mode and the Top Boost channel will be reconfigured, giving you a purer signal path.
In short; this gives you a whole lot more gain for a beautifully aggressive sound.
Furthermore, you can use the included VSF1 footswitch to activate HOT mode and use it as a lead boost, taking your solo to another level.
Master Volume, Tone Cut and More
The Master section adds further tonal control giving you Tone Cut and Volume controls to further shape your sound.
The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage as opposed to the preamp stage given you even more control over your sound.
Next there’s the A Master Volume control. Working together with the individual channel volumes, Master Volume allows you to achieve the perfect level of gain-staging.
The Master Volume can also be fully bypassed so you can play at lower volumes without losing your tonal clarity.
Furthermore, you can use the OP mode switch to cut your power in half. Play at full power for the classic Vox sound or halve it for a mellowed high end a new tonal palette to play with.
Go Outside the Box
Giving the AC15HW1 its fantastic valve tone is a set of ECC83/12AX7 preamp valves and EL84 power amp valves.
These provide 15 watts of power to the 12” Celestion Greenback speaker which delivers all the incredible sound to your ears.
If you’d like to go beyond the internal speaker of the AC15HW1, you have two further options.
The AC15HW1 also features a switchable 8/16 ohm jack that allows you to power an external speaker cabinet, switching off the internal speaker.
