Grand Pacific Guitar – A Dreadnought with Incredible Low-End Clarity
Inspired by the dreadnought style guitars heard on Bluegrass and other American roots music, Taylor have created the Grand Pacific guitar body shape.
With the Grand Pacific shape you get the low-end power and broad range of a dreadnought guitar but with more versatility.
With standard dreadnought guitars, the low-end is often muddied and clouds the individual notes while the Grand Pacific model gives you more clarity.
The end result is the great performance of a dreadnought but without the same confines so it’s suitable for all styles of acoustic performance – even fingerstyle players will love the Taylor 517 Grand Pacific.
Crafting the Builder’s Edition 517
The top of the Builder’s Edition 517, is made from torrefied Sitka Spruce so you get the sound of a beautifully aged guitar from day one.
Spruce is an incredibly popular tone wood due to its broad dynamic range, rich tones and resonance.
Neo-tropical Mahogany is used for the back and sides, complementing the Sitka Spruce top with its own dry and woody character.
Taylor’s groundbreaking V-Class bracing is in use, giving the Taylor 517 incredible projection and enhanced sustain.
The fantastic blend of warm, rounded tone and note clarity produced by the Taylor 517 is unusual for a guitar of this shape and size and is testament to the design of the Grand Pacific body shape.

The Builder’s Edition 517 has a new compound carve neck profile that is specially designed to complement your fretting hand wherever you play on the neck.
This neck starts out with a slight V shape at the nut before gradually morphing to a rounded C as you move towards the rounded, ridgeless heel.
Working perfectly with this new neck shape, rolled fretboard edges further add to the great playing feel.
Even the body is extra comfortable thanks to its chamfered edges which have great looking, traditional binding.
Last but not least, the body holds a new curve wing bridge which has rounded edges and other refined contouring. With this updated design, you get significantly enhanced comfort for your picking hand.
