Thin Yet Strong

This Tama Starclassic Yesteryear kit is constructed from 100% maple that has been specially crafted into super thin shells that are surprising strong and superbly resonant.

The toms feature a 6 ply / 5mm construction and the bass drum is a slightly chunkier 8 ply / 7mm.

Known for its all-purpose sound, maple delivers even amounts of highs and mids and offers a beautifully warm low-end tone, making it the ideal choice for a wide range of playing styles and performance settings.

In the creation of this Starclassic Yesteryear kit Tama decided to use a thin shell construction in order to optimise the resonance and vibration transfer from the drumheads to the shells.

Normally thinner shells result in a loss of strength meaning that although you achieve improved sustain you have less durability.

However, instead of using fewer plies to make the shells thinner, Tama have slimmed down each ply and then cross laminated them to produce a thinner shell that is actually stronger than thicker shells.

Quick Lock Tom Brackets

One of our favourite features of the Tama Starclassic drums are the Quick Lock Tom Brackets.

Fitted to the rack and floor toms, this distinctive and ingenious feature allows for quick and easy set up and pack down of the drum kit.

Providing robust stability and reliable hold for your rack toms and floor tom legs, the quick lock tom brackets offer strong support while you play.

But that’s not it, the really smart part of the quick lock tom brackets is that they also work as integrated memory locks to provide quick and consistent setup every time.

Once the rack tom or floor tom is positioned on the stand or legs all you need to do is slide the switch on the tom bracket to make it separate into two parts.

The memory lock portion of the bracket then stays on the tom stand or floor leg and the drum can then be removed ready to be replaced in exactly the same position next time round.

There’s no need to add separate memory locks or to make adjustments with a drum key, simply slide and set.

The quick lock brackets also offer hidden acoustic benefits thanks to their rubber lining which provides isolation from the shell to enhance the resonance of the drum.

Star Cast Mounting

The 12” rack tom of this Tama Starclassic Maple kit is fitted with Tama’s Star Cast Mounting System which works in conjunction with the quick lock bracket to deliver maximum resonance and stability.

The star cast mounting system attaches to the rack tom via 4 lug points to prevent direct contact with the shell which would negatively impact the drum sustain.
Tama have also switched the construction of the mount to aluminium to provide a lighter weight and to offer even truer tonal vibration for hardware that significantly enhances the tone of the toms.

The result is super strong support and precise placement for your rack toms without detrimentally affecting the tom sound.

Air Cushioned Tom Legs

In keeping with Tama’s constant pursuit of optimum tone, the floor tom legs of this Tama Starclassic kit feature an air cushioned design to provide improved sustain.

Typically, when you strike a floor tom the vibrations from the shell transfer through the legs and into the floor which drastically chokes and dampens the sound.

The Starclassic Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber to eliminate this vibration transfer to ensure a floor tom that sings with thunderous sustain.

Bass Drum Spurs and Claw Hooks

The 20” bass drum of this Tama Starclassic Turquoise Pearl kit is fitted with MSB30 die-cast bass drum spur brackets to deliver superior hold.

Featuring the same hinge mechanism as the Tama MTB30 mount bracket, the bass drum spurs have unique memory markers for consistent and simplified setup.

The kick drum also features claw hooks that are lined with rubber spacers to protect the wooden hoops against damage.

The design of the hooks allows them to work as one with the hoops to prevent separation or rattling as you play, even on loose tunings.

Die Cast Hoops

Both toms in this Tama shell pack are fitted with zinc die cast hoops as standard to provide easier and more consistent tuning.

While triple flanged hoops are made by bending metal plates into shape, die-cast hoops offer a more consistent shape and higher density because they are manufactured by injecting molten metal into moulds.

Providing a stronger shape, these die-cast hoops deliver better contact with the tension rods to ensure much easier tuning that stays in place longer.

The die-cast hoops also provide a crisper attack, clearer resonant highs and more powerful rim shots to provide a tom sound with added impact.

Hold Tight Washers

Each of the drums in this 3-piece shell pack are fitted with Tama’s patented hold tight washers.

Featuring a totally unique design, these washers have a cup shaped stainless steel frame that houses a rubber ring to deliver improved grip between the tension rod and the hoop.

Normally, vibrations loosen the tension rods as you play which results in the drums becoming out of tune.

However, here the soft rubber rings of the hold tight washers stay in constant contact with the tension rod and hoop to maintain friction which prevents loosening.

This allows your drum tuning to be locked in longer to deliver a consistent tone through the duration of your playing session.

Evans Drumheads

The Starclassic Maple Yesteryear comes fitted with Evans drumheads as standard to deliver superior sound and reliable durability straight out of the box.

The rack and floor toms are fitted with Evans Genera G2 2 ply clear batter heads over Genera G1 clear resonant heads and the bass drum has a Genera EQ4 clear batter and a Tama logo reso.
