Re-Issue of the Famous Phonic

Originally released in 1979 and produced until 1982, the wooden Sonor Phonic snare was available in two different models.

A high-end snare designed to rival the high-end metal Sonor snares available at the time, the Sonor Phonic Mahogany delivered rich versatile tone filled with superb sensitivity and precise focus.

Now recreated to offer modern drummers a link to the classic of the past, this Re-Issue Phonic snare maintains much of the original styling to recapture the tone of the time.

Beech Build

In keeping with the original version, this 14” x 6.5” Phonic snare is constructed from 9 plies of beech wood to deliver the tone of the first incarnation.

Characterised by it’s pronounced high and mid ranges combined with great punchy low-end tone, beech produces a sensitive and focused sound.

A brilliantly versatile drum, this Sonor Phonic snare is capable of covering the most diverse demands.

From the delicate intricacy of jazz to the full-on impact of rock, this Sonor snare offers superb dynamic range to capture the nuances of your playing.

Whether you want the cutting projection needed to pierce through the mix on stage or require the depth of tone desirable for the studio, the Sonor Phonic is capable of both.

The beech shell is finished with 45 degree bearing edges to deliver a lively, modern tone filled with added attack and sustain.

Semi-Gloss Glamour

Both the interior and exterior of this 14” Sonor snare feature a semi-gloss finish to provide a shimmering high-end aesthetic.

The inside of the shell has a semi-gloss beech veneer while the exterior is finished in semi-gloss mahogany veneer.

Providing a look that’s practically identical to the late 1970s original, this Mahogany veneer snare drum has a rich thin grained deep brown appearance that perfectly contrasts with the all chrome hardware.

Delivering a stylishly sophisticated aesthetic, this is a snare that looks as classy as it sounds.

Chrome Plated Hardware

This Sonor Phonic Re-Issue snare is fitted with all chrome hardware to offer a strikingly streamlined appearance.

The 10 Phonic double lugs maintain the same bow tie style design found on the original snare, offering a classy nod to history of the drum.

The beech shell is fitted with Sonor’s Throw-Off Snare Action Strainer to provide quick and easy adjustment of the 20 strand steel snare wires.

Unlike the original, which had an adjustable butt plate, this new Sonor Phonic snare has a much simpler fixed butt.

The Phonic shell is framed with die cast hoops which work to give the snare a robust, chunky aesthetic whilst helping to produce a much more focused sound response.

Providing a wonderful touch of vintage flare, this Sonor Re-Issue Phonic comes fitted with slotted tension rods just like the original 70s/80s model.

Finally, the snare features a Remo Ambassador coated single ply batter head and a Remo Ambassador smooth clear, single ply resonant head to offer superb sound and reliable durability straight out of the box.
