EMG Retro Active - Hot and Fat
To get the perfect tone suitable for shredding styles, Schecter have selected two different types of pickup from the EMG Retro Active range.
Firstly, in the neck position; the Schecter Sun Valley SS FR has an EMG Retro Active Fat 55 pickup. This pickup was inspired by the tone and feel of the original PAF – bringing back classic tones of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
No longer constrained by the limited technology of yesteryear this retro-looking humbucker has a newly designed preamp providing the benefit of low-impedance output meaning there’s pretty much no hum or added noise.
Alnico magnets set in open coil bobbins give you fat, warm lows while retaining high end clarity. Great for being overdriven for biting solos and, of course, shredding – the Fat 55 pickup keeps its passive character while the preamp cleans up the output noise.
In the bridge position is an EMG Retro Active Hot 70 pickup. This pickup provides detailed and complex clean tones. It has deep, rich and fat lows but stays crispy and clear at the same time.
Great Construction and Hardware
The body is made of Mahogany and features a Floyd Rose Special ‘Hot Rod’ Locking Tremolo (which is Schecter Exclusive) – perfect for those Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen deep and frantic whammy bar actions while keeping your strings in tune.
Metal knurled knobs with set screws give you two easy to grip and fast to use volume controls and there’s a 3-way pickup selector switch.
The Maple neck is an extremely playable thin ‘C’ shape and features a Rosewood fretboard with offset reverse dots for fret markers. X-Jumbo frets make playing fast extremely easy, suiting fast metal and shredding styles down to the ground.
A Floyd Rose nut combined with Schecter tuners means your strings are easy to tune and once in tune they’re staying there, no matter how much you bend your way through face-melting solos.
