I don't know about you, but when I think PRS the first guitar that springs to my mind is the PRS Custom 24. This fabulous instrument has been the company's workhorse for more than three decades now, with musicians from all genres of music enjoying their versatility, playability and tonal superiority. The reliability and longevity of these guitars is also well-documented, with a well-maintained model from the 1980's or 90's offering just as much playability and exquisite tonal choices as any modern day instrument can manage.
The One That Started It All!
This particular 2017 Limited Edition Custom 24 comes complete with the famous 85/15 pickup system (see below), a PRS Patented Gen III tremolo and a Mahogany Pattern Thin Neck. The rarity of this guitar, though, is down to the gorgeous wood top, an exquisite piece of 10-Top Carved Flame Maple with a gloss Blue Matteo finish - enough to turn heads wherever you play it.
- Top Wood: 10-Top Carved Figured Maple
- Back Wood: Mahogany
- Finish: Honey
The "10-Top" prefix refers to the rarity of the Carved Maple wood top. In order to achieve 10-Top status the wood must have a clearly defined figure across the entire top with no "dead" spots, which is a rarity due to the small percentage of cut maple trees in North America that are actually figured. The Mahogany back makes for a light-weight and comfortable guitar, with that famous warm tonewood voicing that PRS guitars are known for.
- Number of Frets: 24
- Scale Length: 25"
- Neck Wood: Mahogany Neck
- Neck Shape: Pattern Thin
- Fretboard Wood: Ebony
- Fretboard Inlay: Birds
The Pattern Thin neck is perfectly suited a fast and fluid playstyle, offering you a smooth right with easy access to each and every nook and cranny of the fretboard. A mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, inlaid with Bird fret-markers, manages to add a finishing touch of PRS class to this already incredible-looking instrument.
- Bridge: PRS Patented Tremolo, Gen III
- Tuners: PRS Phase III Locking
- Hardware Type: Hybrid
The Gen III Tremolo and Phase III locking tuners on the Custom 24 are designed to work perfectly in tandem with one another - allow yourself the luxury of introducing anything from a slight shimmer to a hefty divebomb into your guitar solo, without seeing the integrity of your guitar's tuning affected.
- Treble Pickup: 85/15 Treble
- Bass Pickup: 85/15 Bass
- Controls: Volume and Tone, 5-way pickup blade switch
The awesome PRS 85/15 Humbuckers are based around the original pickups found in the 1985 model, perfectly recreating that classic warm and clear tone that we've come to know and love. The 5-way selector switch allows you to choose an array of pickup options: whether you want to utilise the pickups as Humbuckers, Single Coils, or a combination of the two, it's entirely up to you - the tonal options you're presented with here are many and varied!
Pickup Switching Positions
- Position One: Bridge humbucker
- Position Two: Bridge humbucker with neck singlecoil, in parallel
- Position Three: Bridge and neck humbuckers
- Position Four: Neck singlecoil with bridge singlecoil, in parallel

Add to this a tone and volume control, and you have yourself an incredibly versatile guitar that would suit just about any musical situation.
