The Martin D-18 is absolutely iconic. This legendary dreadnought guitar from Martin was originally released in 1931, intended for folk and bluegrass players for big sound and volume and boy does it deliver on both counts!

Iconic Dreadnaught Guitar

Fantastic Acoustic Guitar Construction

In recent years, Martin have returned to using the D-18’s original style of bracing – that is to say forward shifted bracing. Matching the solid top for increased resonance, the bracing is crafted from Sitka Spruce and comes in an X brace style and is scalloped.

The solid top is made of Sitka Spruce which is a real go-to tonewood when it comes to acoustic guitar tops and extremely popular due to its beautiful resonance, projection and rich tones. The sides are made of beautiful genuine American mahogany.

The forward shifted position of this bracing allows for enhanced volume and projection, further increasing the volume and big sound of this dreadnaught guitar.

High Performance Neck

Fitted to the Martin D-18’s body with a secure dovetail joint is a one piece solid neck with a comfortable modified low oval shape and an extremely smooth, ultra-playable satin finish.

The neck is made even more playable by use of a Performing Artist taper, or High Performance taper as Martin now prefer to call it, which results in an extremely comfortable grip that makes playing this fabulous guitar even easier.

Adorning the neck is an Ebony fingerboard which is a joy to play and extremely durable, providing singing sustain and detail that is beneficial to any musical style or performance.

To further enhance the playability of this fantastic acoustic guitar, Martin have given it the much-lauded Plek fret dressing treatment.

The Plek Pro is an incredible, high-tech tool that has been developed for guitar production factories. The result of Plek Pro treatment is a fantastic fret dressing that significantly improves the playability of the Martin D-18.

Additional High End Features

Full body binding makes for an extremely secure guitar with the faux tortoise colouring adding a subtle yet attractive aesthetic layer to enhance the visuals of this already beautiful instrument.

Additionally, the faux tortoise pickguard is moulded rather than cut from a sheet of plastic and so results in a more visually pleasing pickguard with gorgeous translucency.

As another tribute to the origins of the Martin D-18, the bridge is a 1930s-style belly with drop in saddle as is made of Ebony, perfectly transferring the vibration from the strings to the solid Sitka Spruce top.

The nut and compensated saddle of the Martin D18, as is tradition, are made from bone; a fantastic material that enhances sustain and vibration transfer.

Vintage style, open gear nickel plated machine heads with butterbean style knobs allow for speedy, precise and stable tuning.

Of course, being a D-18 or dreadnaught style 18, the Martin D-18 acoustic guitar has the iconic style 18 rosette with inlaid rings and beautiful style 18 abalone fretboard which are just a couple more aspects adding to the guitar’s overall aesthetic appeal.

Coming to you with a wooden hardshell case, the Martin D-18 is an absolutely iconic dreadnaught style acoustic guitar that you will cherish for years to come and pass down through the generations.
