The UK-wide charity event Learn To Play Day was held across all 15 of our stores to get more people into making music!
Learn To Play Day is the flagship event of the UK’s Music for All Charity, which takes place for an entire weekend to provide budding musicians or old hands with the opportunity to have an introductory music lesson with a professional tutor, completely for free. This year was our biggest yet for PMT, as we partnered with Rocksteady Music School (who were fantastic!) in 8 of our stores. All in all 266 free music lessons we provided in PMT Stores, despite the horrendous weather!
Learn To Play Day 2018 Highlights
Rocksteady at PMT Stores
This Learn To Play Day we teamed with Rocksteady Music School, whose highly-trained team of musicians make learning music fun! Rocksteady give children the chance be in their own band, perform songs they love and learn life skills along the way. They're currently teaching in over 500 UK schools and their sessions are a fun way for children to learn new musical skills and build their self-confidence.
Rocksteady brought a 'learning station' to PMT Birmingham, Bristol, Northampton, Nottingham, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southend and London so all participants could have a free drum, guitar, bass, keyboard and/ or singing lesson. Participants and PMT Store Experts couldn't get enough of Rocksteady's brilliant approach to teaching - so a very big thanks goes to Sam, Phill, Sam, Mark, Michelle, Jacques, Jamie, Luke, Roy, Richard, Paul, Mark, Tommy, Adam, Alex, Becca, Chris, Ellie, Steve and Matt for providing excellent music lessons for LTPD!
So many exciting things happened at PMT Manchester during Learn To Play Day weekend! British Drum Co. provided three fantastic drummers to provide free drum lessons on electric drum kits PMT Manchester so LTPD participants received an unforgettable drum lesson from Pete Salisbury from The Charlatans and The Verve, Mike Heaton from Embrace or Donald Johnson from A Certain Ratio!
Local guitar tutor Nigel Pickering and Will Tait from "We Play Guitar" also provided free guitar lessons, and Remie Pascua from Roland UK provided free piano lessons in-store. Not only that but local bands and artists Cultures, Joe Keegan and Dazed Reaction performed live in store too!
The one and only McRocklin helped to provide free lessons at PMT Newcastle. We bet people got some fantastic techniques tips from the Shredding King on Saturday!
Favourite local guitar tutor Kolin Durier provided excellent free guitar lessons at PMT Norwich.
Local guitar tutor Lloyd Scott also provided free guitar lessons alongside Rocksteady at PMT Southend for Learn To Play Day.
Also special thanks to Zildjian for providing free drum sticks for our blossoming drummers on Learn To Play Day!
We hope you all had a fantastic weekend and fell in love with playing an instrument! We already can't wait for LTPD 2019 and soon as next year's dates are available we'll post them here.
