There’s a reason Gretsch is such a well-respected drum company. Not only has the brand stood the test of time with a wide range of extremely successful products, but they also continue to innovate; building on their tradition and experience to develop new and exciting drums.
The Catalina Maple Series consists of drums made from 7plies of 100% maple.
The nature of maple means that this kit offers an even amount of high and mid frequencies combined with slightly warm lows. The result is a well balanced, all-round tone ideal for all styles of music.
Maple performs well across the board. It doesn’t lack tone in any frequency ranges, instead providing a robust response from top to bottom.
The shells are finished off with 30 degree bearing edges, further enhancing the characteristics of maple with added warmth for a soft, smooth sound.
Rather than applying the Silver Sealer found on some of Gretsch’s kits, the Catalina Maple shells are left with a natural shell interior.
Attention To Detail
In addition to the beautiful sounding shells, Gretsch have really put an emphasis on attention to detail with the Catalina Maple hardware.
From the bass drum mounting plate to the T-wing screws, Gretsch have ensured precision and exactness when it comes to their drum hardware.
The bass drum features a “gas cap” design bass drum mount plate which is adorned with the Gretsch name.
The die-cast bass drum claws come fitted with rubber isolators to ensure the bass drum hoops stay protected.
The kick drum also features telescopic bass drum spurs for easy and precise bass drum positioning.
The final cherry on top comes in the form of matching maple wood bass drum hoops that finish the bass aesthetic off perfectly.
The kit also comes complete with an ultra low profile GTS tom mounting system that ensures limited contact with the tom shells to prevent resonant choking. This means the shell can resonant freely to allow for improved sustain and tonal response.
The toms and snare are all fitted with 2.3mm triple flanged hoops and the full kit comes complete with Remo drumheads.
All hardware is fitted with Gretsch T-Wing screws and bolts providing a consistent aesthetic across the kit and a drummer-friendly feel for quick and easy adjustment and secure positioning.
