When competitors began to import high-quality, low-priced guitars, Fender had to respond.
In 1979, Fender responded with the Lead Series which boasted a new solid body design, hard-tail bridges and exciting new wiring options.
Highly versatile, this stylish new guitar appealed to a wide variety of players.
Now, the Fender Player Lead II pays tribute to those late '70s models, featuring dual-slanted Player series pickups, dual toggle switches and the unique Lead double-cutaway shape.
Coming from Fender's factory in Ensenada, Mexico, this guitar offers incredible performance at an affordable price.

Creative New Design
The sleek new design of the Fender Lead guitar was the beginning of an exciting new creative era for Fender.
That same great, unique design has returned in the Fender Player II with its curvaceous shape and double cutaway design providing ergonomic playing comfort and easy reach of the upper frets.
Attached to the body is a maple neck with a modern "C" shape profile which is complemented by a 9.5" radius maple fretboard offering comfortable playability.
Further enhancing playability, the neck features a silky smooth satin finish on the back.
Unique Electronics
Voicing the Fender Player Lead II are dual-slanted Player Series Alnico 5 Strat single-coil pickups.
Fitted with Alnico 5 magnets, these pickups deliver powerful tone and response for a fantastically punch sound - perfect for lead guitar performance and chunky riffing.
Allowing you to adjust your sound, the Fender Player Lead II guitar features two toggle switches.
The first of these is a pickup selector switch giving you the following options:
- Position 1. Bridge Pickup
- Position 2. Bridge and Neck Pickups
- Position 3. Neck Pickup
When in Position 2, with both pickups activated, you can use the second toggle switch which allows you to choose between IN phase and OUT of phase options.
With the two pickups in-phase, they work together to produce a reinforced, full and rich sound.
When the pickups are out-of-phase, the pickups work against one another for a thinner, edgier sound.
Simple Yet Effective Hardware
Fitted to the body of the Fender Lead II is a 6-saddle string-through-body hardtail bridge with individual block saddles.
With no tremolo attached, this bridge, especially with its string-through design, acts as a solid anchor, working with the resonance of the guitar's alder body.
With individual steel block saddles, you get precise intonation along with bright, cutting tone.
