Since the guitar's original design and release in 1950, the guitar that became known as the Fender Telecaster has seen a number of changes over the years. Not all of these changes have been well-received, but despite this the guitar has remained amongst the world's most popular for more than six decades now - they're obviously doing something right!
Postmodern Telecaster, in Aged 3-Tone Sunburst with Custom Shop "Twisted Tele" Pickups
As a result, the Fender Custom Shop has released the Postmodern Telecaster: an elegantly designed guitar that's the result of six decades of "Fender Firsts" - bringing a host of "favourites" from across the years together in the creation of this great guitar, and giving it a Journeyman Relic Aged finish
Lightweight Ash Body
Used mainly for those early to mid 1950s instruments, Ash was without a doubt Fender's wood of choice, and remains so to this day for guitars with lighter finishes. As a tonewood, Ash imparts articulation and presence with a great balance between brightness and warmth: perfect for that hallmark Fender Tele sound.
60's Style Neck Profile
The Fender Custom Shop Postmodern Telecaster features a period-accurate "Oval C" neck profile, which leaves you with an authentic vintage playing feel straight out of the mid 1960s. This particular profile is perfect for comfortably faster playstyles than the older "V" and "U" shapes.
Compound Radius Fingerboard
The idea behind the Compound Radius fingerboard is simple: towards the lower frets the radius is the modern-day Fender standard 9.5", which is ideal for chord-play and riffing. Towards the upper frets though, the fretboard "flattens" out into a 12" radius, which is ideal for solos and string-bending, making this neck the perfect all-rounder and as versatile as you could want it to be.
Custom Shop Pickups
For a combination of that classic Telecaster twang and that exquisite Custom Shop Tone, the "Twisted Tele" pickup set should be your go-to pickups every time. Each pickup has been specially tailored to achieve the correct individual sonic character - bright and glassy neck pickup tones, and a warm vintage bridge sound - and they work together perfectly to bring you a dark, full-bodied midrange.
Period-Correct Cases and Ephemera
As with all Custom-Shop Relic guitars, this particular model comes complete with a period-correct tweed hard shell case, every bit as vintage-authentic as the guitar you will be keeping inside of it. The case is accompanied by a fascinating wealth of in-case reproduction extras and accessories, such as: Custom Shop Strap, cable, polishing cloth, wiring kit, and even a genuine certificate of authenticity.
