As one of Fenders most recognisable purveyor's, Eric Clapton's love for the Stratocaster dates back more than four decades. Even then, his tastes in guitars were so particular that he created his own custom "hybrid" Stratocaster, using the best parts from three Fender Strat's he'd recently bought, in the creation of the now-famous "Blackie".
By 1988 Fender introduced their very first Eric Clapton Stratocaster guitar, built to Eric's own specifications, and made available for public purchase for the first time. It was the start of a beautiful relationship that continues to this day.
Soft "V" Neck Profile, Vintage Noiseless Strat Pickups, and Journeyman Relic Ageing
This new entry into the range of Eric Clapton Signature Guitars is a direct mirror of the man's own personal specification. Featuring a special Soft "V" neck profile, a trio of vintage Noiseless single coil pickups, blocked tremolo, Eric's autograph on the headstock, and a Journeyman Relic aged effect over the 2-tone Sunburst finish, this incredible instrument delivers the smooth feel and authentic sound of the original.
One of the few bug-bears that many people have with Single Coil pickups is the dreaded hum. This Custom Shop Eric Clapton Signature, on the other hand, comes complete with a set of Vintage Noiseless Strat pickups from Fender, which produle all of that brilliant clarity, definition and tone that you'd expect from a vintage Strat, but without any of the hum!
Soft "V" Neck Profile
The Soft "V" is a throwback to the vintage guitars of yester-year, and often show up on reissued guitars. The shape of this neck is often preferred by guitarists who feel more comfortable with their thumb hanging over the edge of the fingerboard whilst playing, rather than on the back of the neck.
Journeyman Relic Finish
The ageing process used by the Fender Custom Shop comes in varying degrees, depending on just how "beat up" you want the instrument to look. This particular model sports a Journeyman Relic finish, giving it the look of a guitar that has been gigged extensively over the years, but also carefully looked after, with some wearing on the fretboard, and chips to the bodywork's paint.
The overall effect adds an air of authenticity to the instrument, combining with the feel and sound to give the impression that you're playing a truly vintage guitar.
As an added bonus, this guitar comes complete with a Deluxe Hardshell Case, Fender Strap, and a genuine Certificate of Authenticity.
