How long have you been working in the music industry for?
Over 30 years! I first started working in an amplifier company at the age of 19. My line manager taught me how to play guitar when I worked there too – we’re both left-handed.
What’s been the highlight of working in the music industry for you?
Well first of all, I love my job. And not only that, I’ve met some fantastic people ever the years working in Cardiff and Newport. The greatest thing for me is meeting life-long customers, who then bring their children in to the shop, and then their children’s children! Providing musical instruments to three generations has been a wonderful experience, and I look forward to meeting the fourth.
What’s your most treasured instruments at home?
I’ve had my Martin HD-28 for 20 years – it’s a very special guitar to me! I’ve also had my Novation Elite since 1987.
We heard you are a great lover of vintage guitars?
Yes, absolutely. At the moment I have three Fender Stratocasters, my favourite one is my 1993 American in White Maple - it’s beautiful. I also have a rare 1956 Framus Black Rose Archtop; it has its pride of place on my wall. I also collect small vintage valve amps too.
What do you do outside of the shop?
When I’m not at PMT Cardiff, you’ll usually find me working in a small recording studio with my two daughters, one of which is a budding singer/ songwriter in the band Golden Age of Reason. Check them out, they’re going to be huge!
