Are you in a band?
My band is called Youth Man.
Your favourite gear that you constantly use?
My 1976 Sonor Phonic kit. It’s Orange and the most 70s thing I’ve ever seen, apart from Shaft. The original. The less said about the remake, the better. Anyway, I digress - my Sonor kit is my pride and joy.
What was the first CD you ever bought?
Billie Piper’s first album. Back when she was just known as Billie. I'm not ashamed - Because We Want To is still a banger.
What’s the most played song?
The Fall - Industrial Estate.
What is the coolest gig you have ever played?
Montreux Jazz Festival was pretty cool. We swam in Lake Geneva before our set. Last year I played Afropunk Festival in New York, that was also pretty cool.
Musical weapon of choice?
Musical weapon? Like a guitar with a bayonet on it or something? Every instrument is a weapon in the right hands - ask Woody Guthrie.
If you could jam with any of your music heroes (dead or alive), who would it be?
There’s a story that before Jimi Hendrix died, he had a jam booked in with Paul McCartney and Miles Davis. I’d like to play drums for that.
Do you have any party tricks?
Yes - keeping everyone in the kitchen and incessantly talking at them about politics and philosophy.
What’s your proudest moment?
Existing for this long.
