For a long time ESP had a reputation for producing extreme looking, no-nonsense guitars that every aspiring metal guitarist yearned for. Whether it was the overall guitar shape (such as their Explorers and modified Flying V's) or even just the wood tops and finishes applied to their guitars, they would stand out head and shoulders above the rest. With the FRX-401, ESP's LTD factory have returned to those roots, giving you a guitar that looks like it means serious business, but is an absolute dream to play.
Looks extreme, sounds exquisite
Sporting the kind of shape that wouldn't look out of place on a medievel fantasy battlefield, the FRX-401 will leave your audience in no doubt that you're there to rock. This professional-grade guitar has been constructed into a truly unique shape, and yet is as comfortable to play as any other guitar I have tested. The 3Pc maple, set-thru neck construction with Thin U profile provides you with fast and easy access to the entire fretboard and is ultra-comfortable to play . The mahogany body is relatively lightweight, and is just as comfortable to play on stage as it is when sitting down for studio work. And then there's that famous EMG pickup combination.
The combination of active neck and bridge humbucker in this guitar gives you plenty of tonal choices to work with, especially with the pickup selector and tone/volume pots at your disposal too - with the correct settings you can produce sounds to fit pretty much all of your musical needs.
In the neck position there's an EMG-60 humbucker, a pickup that packs plenty of output with a nice balance of thick, boosted mids, big lows and singing highs. The close aperture coils produce an array of rich harmonic overtones and plenty of sustain, and due to the ceramic magnets they deliver a fully treble response with lots of output, making them perfect for distinct single-note solos.
Sitting in the bridge position is the ever popular EMG-81. This pickup utilises powerful ceramic magnets with close aperture coils, and produces a tone that's been speifically designed with detailed intensity, incredibly amounts of high end cut and fluid sustain. The nature of this pickup ensures that your leads will slice right through even the most dense of mixes.
Although the price may seem inaccessible to many people, it's worth noting that this is a serious, professional grade instrument intended for working professional musicians - it's most certainly more of a financial investment than a spur-of-the-moment buy. That being said though, here at PMT we have a wide range of finance options available (including 0% interest), helping you spread the cost over several months to make it that bit more palatable. In addition to this, order the guitar online before 3pm today and you will qualify for our fast, free and reliable next day delivery service!
