The fact of the matter is, as much as this may be convenient for tom placement, mounting a tom on a snare stand results in the drum tone being dampened because of the stand.
When you hit the rack tom some of the energy is instantly transferred to and eaten up by the snare stand, instead of working to produce full, well-rounded tom projection.

Sound Aiding Design
Produced in the UK and constructed from the same polymer used to produce leading guitar plectrums, the BDC TomSpring provides a simple solution to a common problem.
The lightweight and durable material is formed into an innovative leaf spring design that connects easily to the bottom of your rack tom under the tension rods.
The TomSpring becomes a middle man between the rack tom and the snare stand and works to prevent energy transfer from the drum to the stand which is what causes a dampening of tone.
Providing a sprung seat that the rack tom sits on, the British Drum Company TomSpring allows the tom to resonate freely allowing it to achieve its optimum resonance, sustain and projection.
The tom springs have been designed to fit standard die cast and triple flanged hoops and can stay fitted to the drum even when its cased, allowing you to simply install the springs once and then forget about them.
The TomSprings come in a pack of three to provide enough to cover the mounting of one rack tom.
