The Fender Jaguar was introduced in 1962 and was probably the most distinctive guitar Fender have ever produced. Originally introduced to cater to the 60s surf style crowd, it wasn’t until the punk explosion of the 70s that the jaguar really took off!
The Jaguar features 22 frets and a shorter 24-inch scale length, which differs to the standard 25.5-inch Fender scale length of the 21-fret Telecaster, Stratocaster and Jazzmaster. This was designed specifically to provide a more comfortable and faster playing experience. The offset body, which was different to the Fender Jazzmaster was loaded with separate vibrato and bridge units along with extra switches and chrome embellishments. Fast forward to today, and although the Jaguar has gone through some subtle changes in circuitry thanks to the American Professional and American performer series, it still remains iconic and unchanged. The Fender Jaguar is an iconic guitar that screams individuality. Allowing you to get your ultimate sound and sculpt your own sonic creation thanks to an array of controls.
In summary, the main differences between the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar come down to the scale length of the guitars and pickups used. The Fender Jaguar has a 24″ scale length, the Fender Jazzmaster has a 25.5″ scale length. The Jaguar has three extra pickup switches. The Fender Jaguar will have exposed humbucking or single-coil pickups. A Jazzmaster will usually have soap bar single-coil pickups. The Fender Jaguar body shape is synonymous with those that love to live and play outside-the-box. There aren't many axes that personify the 'rebel' quite like the original Fender Jaguar!
