Ahead of Namm 2018, Fender have announced their Fender Artist series featuring new USA Flea Jazz Bass, Johnny Marr Jaguar and Albert Hammond Jr signature guitars
The team at Fender have unveiled 3 new Fender Artist Series guitars designed in collaboration with Flea, Albert Hammond Jr and Johnny Marr.
Fender USA Flea Jazz Bass Active
The Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player gets a brand new signature guitar as part of the Fender Artist series and it looks immense!
This custom shaped Jazz body is packed with a hot Fender humbucking pickup combined with an Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt preamp for thunderous tone and unprecedented power in a bass.
A quartersawn maple neck has been crafted with a comfortable “C” shaped profile that makes playing a breeze and fits well with any style. A custom carved heel allows access to the upper register of the fretboard and the 12-16” compound-radius fingerboard sports 22 medium jumbo frets for easier notation.
The 4-saddle HiMass bridge for enhanced sustain, vintage style disc string tree and vintage style tuning machines are premium appointments made for professional level playability. The custom Flea artwork on the asymmetrical neck plate is a great touch and the choice of either Satin Inca Silver or Satin Shell Pink finish makes them a really stand out choice for bass players.
Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar
Johnny Marr, the dynamic guitarist-singer-songwriter behind The Smiths gets a brand-new signature guitar for 2018. The Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar has been designed based on his original modified 1965 Jaguar guitar but features modern appointments for the modern musician.
Dual custom-wound Bare Knuckle Johnny Marr single-coil pickups crank out the huge tones as well as the jangly cleans Johnny needs and breaks right through the mix.
The Fender Johnny Marr jaguar also features a four-position blade pickup switch which includes a series wiring option, pushing out a thicker tone with higher output overall. The dual upper-horn slide switches “brighten” the tone with a low-end roll-off either universally, or in position four.
The maple neck has been modelled on Johnny Marr’s original guitar which includes a vintage style truss rod and 22 vintage style frets.
Johnny Marr has also designed the bridge specifically for this guitar. The Jaguar bridge features Mustang saddles, a chrome cover and nylon posts inserts for improved stability which help protect against tuning shifts that sometimes creep in when you’re using the tremolo – a great idea.
Available in a beautiful Lake Placid Blue (pictured).
Fender Albert Hammond Jr. Stratocaster
The Strokes guitarists and solo-singer songwriter has always been known for his white strat guitar, and the team at Fender have produced a wonderful signature model!
The Fender Albert Hammond Jr. Stratocaster is modelled on his 1985 reissue of a ‘72 Strat and features customized pickup switching where pickup switch position 4 actives both the neck and bridge pickups in tandem – a really interesting feature. Position one and three are reversed.
The larger 70s style headstock is inscribed with Hammond’s signature as well as 70s era logo. The custom-designed single coil Stratocaster pickups have been designed to match Hammonds brash and visceral style which really cuts through the mix. A maple neck with rosewood fingerboard is comfortable to play thanks to the modern “C” shaped profile and the 21 medium-jumbo frets make chords and lead lines easy.
A great signature model from one of today’s guitar heroes and an awesome addition to the Fender Artist series.
