Since 1974, Gordon Smith Guitars have been a mainstay on the UK and international music scene, offering guitarists high quality, hand made and hard-working guitars that sound absolutely fantastic whether you’re recording the softest of ballads or rocking a sweaty, punk rock gig.
We are happy to say that we are now proudly stocking Gordon Smith Guitars here at PMT, so we decided to take a closer look at the range and see why Gordon Smith, the UK’s longest running electric guitar manufacturer is loved by musicians of all levels.
Who are Gordon Smith Guitars?
Gordon Smith are actually the UK’s longest running electric guitar manufacturer, and up until very recently production and construction was run by the Smith family, until they retired and the team at the Auden Musical Instrument Company took over operation, offering the same level of dedication and skilled craftmanship as the original founders. Each guitar is hand made on location in the Gordon Smith / Auden workshop in Northamptonshire and best of all – made with love. Each guitar you hold has been put together by hand, the wood chosen for its quality by hand and each aspect meticulously pored over to ensure you get a high-quality instrument every time.
These guitars are not your run-of-the-mill options, but handmade, affordable options using the finest quality tonewoods and custom-made pickups to offer a lush, versatile tonality and enjoyable playing experience.

1. Gordon Smith GS1 Heritage Natural
Well, we simply have to start with the guitar that started it all! The Gordon Smith Guitars GS1 Heritage, pictured here in a great looking Natural finish pays homage to the guitar that got the company started back in 1974. This beautifully designed guitar from the Gordon Smith Heritage series features a body crafted from a single piece of mahogany for superior resonance and warmth with double cutaway, allowing access to the upper frets. A single piece mahogany set neck with unique Gordon Smith tone pocket is comfortable to play and the rosewood fretboard is fantastic for those who want a warm and resonant feel to their fretboard.
However, it’s the pickups that guitar geeks will really love! Back in 1970, Gordon Smith actually pioneered the coil-split humbucker – so you know you’re in good hands when you hook one of these amazing guitars up to your amplifier. Each humbucker is home wound and made on the same machine and to the same specifications as the original pickups back in 1974, so the sound you’re getting is that which powered the Punk Rock revolution in the UK!
High quality hardware such as a bar bridge, 18:1 tuners and a GS hard case have also been included – all appointments which add to the prestige of these amazing guitars.
2. Gordon Smith GS1000 Special Edition Jet Black
Next up we have the lush Gordon Smith GS1000 Special Edition, pictured here in a sleek Jet Black finish. This limited run guitar is a modern take on the classic GS1 design featuring a Brazilian Cedar body and neck, both of which have been expertly bound to offer a distinctive look. The set-neck also features a traditional rosewood fretboard, for warmth and resonance as well as a more comfortable playing experience.
The beautifully designed Jet black finish looks particularly stunning under stage lights, especially in contrast to the natural finish on the reverse of the guitar whilst the unique scratchplate provides a particularly eye catching feature.
A Gordon Smith Homewound GS Humbucker made in-house provides you with all the tonal variety you need thanks to the GS tone circuit and the addition of a premium Gotoh 510 bridge offers superb intonation whilst working alongside the brad nut to ensure bright tonal qualities and great sustain. 18:1 tuners ensure your guitar stays in tune whether you’re playing slow and soft or absolutely hammering your guitar! But what about the tonewoods?
Well, the expertly crafted pickups are beautifully matched to the choices of tonewoods within the Graf Deluxe Heritage. You have a Pommele top seamlessly fused to a thick one-piece mahogany body offering beautiful sustain and warmth as well as an articulate playing experience – you can hear the rich harmonics of the chords and your lead lines will stand out beautifully.
A beautifully crafted maple neck with maple fretboard ensures each note stands out and really brings out the high register notes, making it ideal for country, Jazz and hard rock players. High quality appointments such as a premium Gotoh 510 bridge, ABS hardcase and 18:1 tuners are just another reason why guitarists love this brand.

The Gordon Smith GS1-60 Heritage revives the classic Gordon Smith guitar that first appeared on stages and in studios back in the 1980s, providing players with a familiar body shape and a huge sound that they could utilise in a wide variety of musical genres.
Again, premium level tonewoods have been used to ensure a lush sound across all facets of the guitar. The body is made from a single piece of Tulipwood and features a single cutaway design which allows for access to the higher frets – ideal for the blues and rock players who want to bust out those big solos.

The GS1-60 comes loaded with a Gordon Smith P90 Dog Ear pickup which is made to the same specs (and on the same machine) as the original pickups from the 1970s.
