The new Korg Prologue Polyphonic Analogue Synthesizers were announced ahead of NAMM 2018. We take a look at the multi-voice, multi-timbre, multi-engine, new-generation flagship analogue synth
The team at Korg have unveiled their new flagship Korg Prologue analogue synths and we can’t wait to get our hands on them! The two Korg Prologue Polyphonic Analogue Synthesizers are available in the form of a 16-voice 61-key prologue-16, and the 8-voice 49-key prologue-8. These fully programmable professional level synthesizers join the growing family of Korg synths hot on the heels of the highly coveted four-voice polyphonic Korg Minilogue and the monophonic Korg Monologue.
Each polyphonic analogue synth has been crafted with a full-size keyboard and features analogue circuitry taken from earlier models within the series, but adds a newly developed digital multi engine and a selection of beautiful DSP-based effects.
Choose from the 16-voice 61-key or the 8-voice 49-key
Both the 16-voice 61-key Korg prologue-16 and the 8-voice 49-key Korg prologue-8 have been designed to meet the needs of stage, studio and home musicians and are capable of providing sound quality and functionality that go above and beyond the capabilities of today’s existing analogue synths.
Depending on which you choose, you have 8 or 16 multitimbral voices as well as a pure analogue path to provide you with lush sound quality and great presence. In addition, you have the same intuitive and easy to use interface as the Minilogue and Monologue opening up a world of synthesis and easily fitting into your existing workflow.
In addition to the structure of 2VCO + MULTI ENGINE, 1VCF, 2EG, 1VCA, and 1LFO, original circuitry, wave shaping and sync/ring switch the Korg Prologue also features a two-pole low pass filter with enhanced sharpness, drive that adds powerful distortion, and a low cut (high pass) switch.
So much control!
A newly developed multi-engine provided as VC03 adds digital waveforms and FM whilst the three different sound engines can actually be combined with the analogue VCOs to create unique sounds.
Four types of noise generator, as well as two on-board effects units (a modulation effect and delay/reverb), chorus or ensemble, warm tape delay, diverse reverbs and user effects slots allow you to create percussive tones and shape your music like never before.
A powerful arpeggiator with a four-octave range and six arpeggiator types allow you to create fantastic sounds straight out of the box.
And that’s just a selection of what this thing can do!
However, the team at Korg haven’t forgotten about playability! The keyboard on the Korg Prologue is a premium quality Japanese-made natural touch keyboard found on the high-end workstations within Korg’s impressive catalogue. This allows for expressive power and a comfortable playing experience.
The Korg prologue is also a beautiful synthesizer to behold, featuring black aluminium front panel and hairline finish along with metal knobs, diamond cut silver indices and lush oak wood side panels – just a few details that emphasise the high quality and attention to detail of this Made In Japan instrument.
These are expected to land on UK shores March/April 2018, so get in quick with your pre-orders and check out the full specs over at PMT online today.
