We all know that Paul Reed Smith Guitars are some of the worlds finest electric guitars, but did you know that they also make outstanding acoustic guitars too? If you do, then you understand just how coveted a PRS acoustic guitar really is – if you don’t, prepare to be impressed!

This year Paul Reed Smith and his team have announced the new range of PRS SE acoustic guitars ahead of the NAMM 2018 show. The PRS SE Angelus Cutaway and PRS SE Tonare Grand, meaning “Angel” and “Thunder” respectively feature an array of innovative features, that don’t necessarily reinvent the wheel, but make the acoustic guitar playing experience all the more enjoyable thanks to some lush tonewoods and a choice of either traditional “X” bracing or PRS’s hybrid “X”/Classical bracing.

In addition, the unique combination of these tonewoods such as Mahogany, Ovangkol and Maple as well as bone nuts and saddles all add to the beautiful resonance and playability of the guitars. Each guitar comes fitted with a Fishman pickup for stunning sound when plugged in to an amplifier or desk and every model also comes with a hard case too! Great value considering their relatively low price point.
Let’s take a closer look at the new range.

The PRS SE AXE20E, seen here in a natural finish combines the warmth and resonance of mahogany neck, back and sides with the snap and articulation of a solid spruce top resulting in a rich sound that is perfect anything including big chords and intricate guitar lines. As this new guitar is constructed with traditional “X” bracing, the PRS SE Angelus AXE20E from the line of PRS SE Acoustics offers more vibration on the top of the guitar whilst offering up more stability and stronger guitar overall – this is a workhorse waiting to be used. And as Paul reed Smith describes “A tool to do a job”.

This is also installed with a Fishman GT1 pickup system for a dynamic and organic tone. The pickup is installed under the saddle with a soundhole mounted preamp – ensuring each note you play is captured beautifully. The ebony fretboard is a joy to play, especially as you traverse the entire neck thanks to the cutaway shape and the PRS trademark bird inlays look beautiful.

Next up in the PRS SE Acoustics range, we have the PRS SE A40E. This powerful guitar features a cutaway shape, Mahogany neck with Ebony fretboard and the classic PRS bird inlays and headstock design, but adds an extremely exotic tonewood within the body to produce an interesting sound. The Ovangkol body is an African relative of rosewood which produces a slightly fuller midrange overall but is extremely dynamic – best of all it’s completely sustainable. When coupled with the sitka spruce top, you have a bright sounding and articulate option for all genres. The PRS SE Angelus AE40E NA is constructed with the PRS hybrid “X” / Classical bracing, which allows the top to freely vibrate, meaning the SE A40E’s voice projects with a louder-than-expected volume and delicate nuance.

Again, this guitar comes fitted with the Fishman GT1 pick up system, bone nut and saddle and comes with a hard case – a great feature for travelling musicians.

PRS SE A50E

The final cutaway model from the PRS SE Acoustics range comes in the form of the PRS SE A50E BG Cutaway Angelus. Be prepared for a huge sound when you pick this one up! The combination of a Maple back and sides with Solid Spruce top makes for a huge sound with added snap, but beautiful warmth as well. This guitar has been constructed with PRS hybrid “X” /Classical bracing, which allows the top to freely vibrate and project, resulting in the SE A50E taking on a fairly uncommon 3-dimensional character for a maple back and side guitar.

The Mahogany neck wood is comfortable and the Ebony fretboard is warm and easy to play, especially thanks to the cutaway shape. The Abalone body purfling and rosette are a stunning feature as is the bone nut and saddle. When plugged in via the Fishman GT1 pickup system, this guitar really sings!

PRS SE Tonare Acoustic Guitars

PRS SE TXE20E NA Tonare Solid Sitka Spruce Top with Bird Inlays Natural

PRS SE TXE20E

The full bodied PRS SE TXE20E features a Tonare Grand body shape to deliver a thunderous tone, ideal for fingerpicking and those who need their intricate guitar lines to stand out from the mix. The mahogany back and sides coupled with the sitka spruce top offers up a warm, balanced tone and the traditional “X” bracing within the body ensures your guitar top vibrates beautifully.

The PRS SE TXE20E is a highlight from the PRS Se Acoustics range due to its budget friendly price tag, and beautiful construction. The ebony fretboard and bride, bone nut and saddle and classic PRS bird inlays and headstock make this guitar stand out wonderfully. And when you plug in to any amp or desk, the Fishman GT1 pickup system ensures your guitar sings loud and bright. A stunning guitar that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

PRS SE T40E NA Tonare Solid Sitka Spruce Top with Bird Inlays Natural

PRS SE T40E

The PRS SE T40E pairs the lush tonality of ovangkol back and sides with a solid spruce top for a full, rich and deep sounding guitar that really brings out the mid-range of your sound. This sustainable wood sound fantastic, especially when used in conjunction with the PRS hybrid “X” /Classical bracing that has been applied to the top. The extra vibration and depth really stands out when you ring the big chords out on this guitar! When you plug in to the Fishman GT1 pick up system, you’ll enjoy an accurate representation of the tonewood qualities of your guitar and a lush tonality whether through an amplifier or desk.

A Mahogany neck with wide fat shape is comfortable to play and allows you to really enjoy every note you strike. A Tiger acrylic body purfling and rosette really finish off the guitar nicely and the included PRS hard-shell case keeps your guitar safe between gigs! A great guitar that is meant to be used as much as possible.

PRS SE T50E

Finally, we have the amazing Tonare Grand Body from the PRS SE Aoustics range. The PRS SE T50E partners Maple back and sides with a solid spruce top – so plenty of snap and bright articulation is the order of the day. However, the PRS hybrid “X” /Classical bracing allows the top of the guitar to vibrate freely and project a larger sound, resulting in a lush 3-dimensional character that is surprisingly warm for a guitar with Maple back and sides. This is very much a guitar for players of all styles and genres thanks to its versatile tonality.

The Fishman GT1 pickup system ensures your tone is preserved when you’re playing through an amplifier, the ebony fretboard and bridge add depth whilst the bone nut and saddle add superior resonance. The abalone body purfling and rosette look amazing, especially alongside the bird inlays and trademark PRS headstock. A fantastic looking and sounding guitar that will instantly become your favourite guitar.
