Birmingham's biggest and best annual music trade show is happening at PMT Birmingham on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November, with a special Education Day on Friday 3rd.
What Is Music's Live?
In 1996, Garry Chapman and Clive Morton launched a Guitar show in Birmingham at the NIA. After three years, it outgrew the NIA and moved to the NEC and became the annual event, 'Music's Live'. After a successful 10 years at the NEC, Music's Live finished. However, Garry Chapman saw an opportunity!
After hearing many customers saying that PMT Birmingham looked like a music show, Garry decided he would relaunch Music's Live inside the music mega store PMT Birmingham in 2011. Ever since, Music's Live has been the UK's biggest and best music show, with top demonstrators, clinicians, major artists, live performances, hands on demos, product launches, end of lines, special offers, competitions and clearances deals on all weekend.
Music's Live 2017
For the first time, PMT Birmingham is extending Music's Live for an extra day that's been specially created to for local music students on Friday 3rd November. General members of the public are also invited to Education Day if they would like to have in-depth tuition with top demonstrators from the world's top music brands.
PMT’s Live Lounge will have a full programme for the weekend, with many brands launching new products, demonstrating gear and showing off some rare, historic video presentations. There will also be some special meet and greet opportunities with major artists in the Live Lounge too!
Artists In Store
- Chris Childs and Gary "Harry" James from 90's hard rock band Thunder will be at Music's Live Weekend to provide Meet & Greets.
- The uber-talented Rabea Massaad from prog-metal band Dorje will also be in-store to host a live performance and a Q&A session with D'Addario.
- Darkglass Electronics Founder Douglas Castro will be doing an exclusive Q&A on Saturday 4th November in the Live Lounge at 4PM with Daniel Firth (bassist of Cradle of Filth) and Steve Drennan (bassist of Engel). If you're a bassist, you cannot miss out on meeting the man that has created some of the world's best bass effects and preamps.
- UK Sessions drummer Charlie Kenny will be hosting a drum clinic in association with Paiste cymbals in the Live Lounge at Music's Live on Sunday 5th November at 12:30 PM.
2017 marks the 60th Anniversary year for VOX, and they’re celebrating it in style! VOX product demonstrator Gareth Cirket will be presenting a specially created 60th Anniversary documentary, which showcases VOX’s legendary history from their humble beginnings in Dartford, Kent, through to their most famous clients such as Hank Marvin, The Beatles, U2 and Brian May to their present-day position as one of the leading brands in amplification. You’ll also be able to ask Gareth questions about the history of the company, VOX’s current line of amps and see him demonstrate features that make them such classics.
The long-awaited VOX Continental will also be shown for the first time in the UK at Music’s Live 2017, with Luke Edwards demonstrating this fantastic recreation of a 60’s classic.
Sandberg have been a leading boutique instrument manufacturer since 1984, well known for their excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. You may have seen our special run basses designed by our own bass guru Jamie!
At Music’s Live, Sandberg will be welcoming Thunder’s Chris Childs to the family with his ‘Enigma’ Signature Bass, which Chris will be bringing with him.
Thunder are a force to be reckoned with, selling out huge venues even today. Their long and storied career featured such classic hits as “Dirty Love”, “Low Life in High Places” and the mega smash “Love Walked In”. Chris will be in the Live Lounge on Saturday and Sunday doing Q&A sessions meet & greets. Plus, Saturday will be extra special as Chris will be joined by Garry “Harry” James from Thunder on drums! The boys will be playing a special live set in store, telling stories and answering your questions.
Orange Amps have been a staple of British music since they were founded by Cliff Cooper in 1968 and show no signs of slowing down.
Orange Product specialist Zak Ford will be here during Music’s Live talking you through their current products, answering your questions and demonstrating their exciting new line of pedals!
Starting with the KongPressor in early 2017, Orange Technical Director Adrian Emsley has designed a set of three fully-featured and versatile pedals. The Getaway Driver is an easy to use Class A amp in a drive pedal featuring a cab sim output, and can also be used as a headphone amp. The Fur Coat is a filthy 70’s style fuzz pedal with super useful octave setting that adds a thicker lower tone to your sound. The aforementioned KongPressor is a fully analogue Class A compression pedal, with a “smooth release bloom” that really enhances your tone.

Blackstar are hosting a world-exclusive launch at Music’s Live of the 10th Anniversary Artisan amplifier. Launch will be the first public showing of the anniversary amp and they will not be available until December - but you can hear it at Music’s Live along with new the HT MKII Venue before anyone else in the world! Steve Marks will be running through the new models and also demonstrating the HT Venue line, which will be in our clearance with to 40% off the range.
Ashdown will be at Music's Live weekend and they are bringing the final pre-production of Geezer Butler's Head Of Doom amp! This will be the first time the amp has been seen in a music store anywhere in the world, so don't miss out.

Patrick will be at Music’s Live on Saturday, and Steve Finley from Faith will be in the store on Sunday. Shergold & Patrick Eggle
The respected 80’s British guitar brand, Shergold, has come back with a bang! The new Shergold range was designed with the aid of Patrick Eggle, who will be at Music’s Live on Saturday to talk about the new guitars, plus all the guitars from the new range will be in-store for you to try out too. It is a Music’s Live must-do!

We are very lucky to have the founder of Darkglass Electronics, Douglas Castro, in the Live Lounge at Music's Live on Saturday 4th November at 4:00 PM with Daniel Firth (bassist of Cradle of Filth) and Steve Drennan (bassist of Engel). The new Marshall DSL range is due to be launched in NAMM ’18, however, those attending Music’s Live at the weekend will be able to check out the new models before anyone else! Steve Smith, Marshall’s UK demonstrator, will be putting these valve amps through their paces.
Jim Dunlop, MXR & Pedaltrain
Adam Best, the leading expert in Dunlop and MXR, will be in-store all weekend helping you custom-make your perfect pedalboard with Pedaltrain. Adam will also be bringing the brand-new MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe with him for you to demo!

The Nord Stage 3 has taken the market by storm, and Rob Wallace from Nord is the UK’s go to guy for all Nord demonstrations and information. Rob will be at Music’s Live all weekend and have an exclusive and intimate session in the Live Lounge on Sunday at 3:30PM where he will primarily going through the Nord Stage 3 and the Nord Piano 3.
Washburn acoustics are a mainstay of PMT Birmingham’s acoustic showroom, and Elliot Pearson from Washburn will be with us all weekend to go through all their acoustic with you so you can find the perfect Washburn.
From conception in 1969, the first Mesa Boogie amplifiers hit the UK in the mid 70’s as the original ‘Boutique Amp’, and we still love them now as much as we did back then! Greg Dunning from Mesa UK will be at Music’s Live on our Education Day on Friday 3rd November, so come in and find out why so many pros have been using Boogie for almost 50 years.
