New: The 2017 Fender American Professional Series

It's fair to say we've seen some turbulent times in the USA recently. Good news for guitarists around the globe, though - The iconic Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Precision and Jazz Basses are back! Say hello to the highly anticipated 2017 Fender American Professional series...

The spirit of Rock and Roll is truly alive once again, courtesy of Fender's 2017 line up of guitars and basses.

Towards the end of 2016 we saw the American Standard series phased out from the line-up, and we were sad to see them go.  But there was an air of anticipation of what was next out of the Fender USA Factory, and we knew it wouldn't be long before something big was announced. (By the way, some cracking deals still to be had on Fender American Standards !)

Meet the 2017 Fender American Professional Series - refined, tweaked and perfected. The line-up is much of the same old same but with a few new twists (why change a winning formula, right?). American-made Fenders still retain that sense of craftsmanship and quality (compared to their Mexican cousins) but we're expecting a much more evolved, matured playing experience thanks to some fine-tuning from their master luthiers.

What's new?

  • Each of the new USA Pro series features Fender's latest treble bleed circuitry for outstanding high end clarity.
  • The V-Mod Pickups, developed by pickup master Tim Shaw, are brand-new single-coil pickups voiced specifically for each position. Mixing alnico magnet types produce powerful, nuanced tone.
  • A refined, modern 'Deep C' neck profile with narrow-tall frets provides a super smooth playing experience. We're expecting string-bending and chord intonation to be much more comfortable.
  • Each guitar and bass in the line-up also come with an Elite Moulded Hard Case. Always a welcome bonus for travelling players!
  • Last but not least - some awesome new colours! Check out the Sonic Grey and Antique Olive finishes for something different. There are even a few of the rare Mystic Seafoam colours in the mix too.

American Professional Stratocaster

Fender American Professional Stratocaster MN, 3-Tone Sunburst

Arguably one of the most iconic guitars ever made, period. The trusty American Strat has graced the stage with some of the most influential guitarists of all time and the 2017 USA Pro Stratocaster still carries this original magic. A versatile tone machine, refined for modern players who will appreciate the accessibility of the neck and lovely new pickups. Available in a wide range of new finishes and with the option of a potentially soon-to-be-discontinued rosewood neck.

American Professional Stratocaster HH Shawbucker

Fender American Professional Stratocaster HH RW, Antique Olive

For those that like it raw, loud and in-your-face. A pair of Humbuckers turn the everyday American Strat into a savage tonal monster. Shredders discretion is advised! The new colour scheme and pickup setup makes this one of our favourite models from the 2017 Fender American Professional range.

American Professional Stratocaster HSS Shawbucker

Fender American Professional Stratocaster HSS RW, Sonic Grey

If you like the idea of cranking things up with a Humbucker without dropping your pants completely (like the HH!) - then HSS delivers the goods. V-Mod single coil pickups work nicely against a fat-sounding Shawbucker at the bridge.

American Professional Precision Bass

Fender American Professional Precision Bass MN, Black

THE original bass guitar, still offering thunderous low end to keep the whole band in check.  The USA Pro Precision Bass benefits from Posiflex graphite support rods that run the length of the neck, adding stability to the neck while resisting warping.

American Professional Precision Bass V

The same, trusted Precision bass with that extra thump from a low B string.  The redesigned tuning machines use a fluted shaft, creating the optimum break angle over the nut while keeping the string windings tight for increased sustain and enhanced tuning stability.

Just my 65 year old two-cents worth, I wish Fender would ditch the single coli pickups especially for this particular model. For a Pro player, like myself (I guess) the single coils are just too noisy for "live " work, much less studio work. I love Fender Stratocasters but I always end up replacing the single coils with their stacked equivalents or adding dummy coils. I quit using single coils decades ago, and yes they sound beautiful, but they are in my opinion impractical in this day and age.
