Allows for Precision With Every Note
Any good compression unit will smooth out and level the dynamic range of your bass, and whilst most modern bass amps come with compression built-in, many of them lack this key feature.
The Ashdown Velvet Compressor, on the other hand, has got it nailed.
Easy to Use
Featuring a simple layout, setting the right levels on this pedals is a breeze. Where you'd usually expect to see controls for Gain, Ratio, and Threshold, on the Vevel Compressor they're all adjusted via the single "Compact" knob.
In addition to this, both Attack and Decay are fully optimised and pre-set to suit the signal passing through.
Surely, That Can't Be It...
One unfortunate side-effect of using a compressor, is that your signal can often sound much louder once it's been de-activated. However, that's not the case with the Velvet Compressor.
Simply set the Input and Output controls accordingly, and your signal will remain at the same volume whether the pedal is activated or not.
Input Signal Indicators
You'll notice that in the above images the Input control has three LED's situated above it - this is to allow you in setting the perfect input level.
Each light emits a different colour depending on your input signal's level: White, Blue, and Red. Ideally you want to see the light going no further than Blue as this indicates the perfect input signal.
Once this setting has been achieved, you can then adjust the Output control to set just how much of a signal makes it to the amplifier.

Returns
