Bassplayer Norman Watt-Roy, for those of you unaware, is widely regarded as one of the finest bassists to come from the British Isles. With a career spanning more than four decades (and several hit songs to his name from his time with Ian Dury and the Blockheads), Norman's signature tone is as recognisable as those lightning-fast licks that he's renowned for, which he achieves these days thanks to his partnership with bass amp and effects makers Ashdown.

Norman's long-standing partnership with Ashdown has now resulted in the creation of this fabulous OriginAl SE - a very limited edition Norman Watt-Roy signature Preamp/DI pedal, with a built-in valve-powered drive unit and 5-band EQ, and would make the ultimate addition to your pedalboard.
Clean or Dirty, the Choice is Yours
As with all good pre-amp pedals, the OriginAL SE helps shape your clean signal, whilst giving you the option of a foot-switchable, valve-powered overdrive circuit, all in the same compact unit. Unlike with many pre-amp pedals though, both Clean and Overdrive tones a delivered superbly, without one channel outshining the other!
Plenty of Options
There's a -3dB Pad switch on the OriginAL SE, making it just as effective whether your bass is Active or Passive. You also have a fantastic 5-band EQ (more on that later), Drive Gain and Drive Level knobs to let you sculpt the sounds generated by the Drive circuit, an Output control which allows you to set the overall volume of the pedal, a DI Out socket for direct feed into the mixing desk (post EQ/Drive), Ground Lift to reduce any noise associated with connecting two signal paths, a Line input, and even a headphone socket for quiet home-rehearsals.
Optimised Touch-Sensitivity
This pedal has been optimised to suit Norman's unique and lightning-fast playstyle, picking up each and every subtle nuance of his playing. This makes it perfect for players who adopt a similar approach, like to use excessive tapping/hammer-on techniques, or just want to produce a more articulate sound when they gig.

Make use of the fabulous 5-band EQ to tweak your tone to your heart's content. With controls for Bass, Low Mid, Middle, High Mid, and Treble, there's really no corner uncovered in your quest for the perfect tone.
Powerful Drive Circuit
Whether your drive sound of choice a subtle, gritty valve depth that you can use all of the time, or a fully responsive bass overdrive, the OriginAL SE has you covered. Powered by a 12AX7 valve, the OriginAL SE's overdrive circuit can be as warm or dirty as you want, and can be activated independantly if need be, adding plenty of flavour to your sound as and when you need it.
