Excellent Birmingham store service - Dave A****
I was greeted by a chap called Dave and i explained i was interested in buying another guitar, a Fender Stratocaster to be precise. I explained i wanted to try a few options and in particular i was attracted to flashy looking guitars. I selected several to play and Dave took me to a practice room where i spent a couple of hours playing different guitars. His knowledge was excellent and he was very patient. Dave listened to what i wanted as a musician and provided the right equipment when i needed it followed by advice on the differences between each one. I settled on a very good guitar and a couple of pedals. If you are going to buy from PMT, GO TO THE BIRMINGHAM STORE.

Overview

An incredible example of world leading luthiery. This is your opportunity to own an amazing piece of craftsmanship. Truly a work of art.

Enter the Dragon 2002 – A Work of Art

Paul Reed Smith introduced the first PRS Dragon to the world in 1992. For the 10th anniversary of the dragon, PRS decided to celebrate this auspicious occasion with a truly incredible piece. We bring to you the PRS Dragon 2002.

The Craftsmanship

The PRS Dragon 2002 has been crafted from some of the rarest and most sought after woods in existence.

The back of the guitar is made from solid mahogany with a top of figured curly maple. The Dragon 2002 was the first PRS Dragon to feature a single cut body. This particular PRS Dragon 2002 comes in a whale blue finish.

The wide-fat neck is made from Brazilian mahogany and features an incredibly crafted fretboard of rare, premium Brazilian rosewood – an extremely difficult wood to procure due to extremely strict exporting and importing laws governing this fantastic material.

A beautiful Paul Reed Smith signature logo adorns the headstock while the hardware is a mixture of nickel and gold colouring adding to the awe inducing visual flair of this piece.

The Electronics

The PRS Dragon 2002 features the power of humbucker style PRS #7 pickups at both neck and bridge positions. These are high output pickups with very unique tone.

These pickups are not often used by PRS and their high output works perfectly to give this dragon its roar! They offer great vintage sound with a modern bite, perfect for the PRS Dragon 2002.

Two volume controls, two tone controls and a three-way toggle pickup switch gives you the tools needed to try and tame the dragon.

The Incredible Inlay

What first catches anyone’s attention when laying eyes on the PRS Dragon 2002 has to be that magnificent inlay.

Never before has a guitar held such an intricate, detailed and bold design as this one. Achieving something like this was no easy feat.

Over 90% of the guitar’s top is inlayed with rare and valuable materials creating the amazing dragon design. PRS Guitars brought in inlay artisans, Pearl Works – noted for their experience in creating inlaid guitar masterpieces, to produce something the guitar world had never before seen.

272 pieces in total, made up of 12 different types of shell, 5 different types of stone and even fossilised mastodon ivory has been used - this inlay is something very special.

This up-close view of a ferocious dragon covers the guitar’s body almost entirely. The dragon’s snout extends to the upper frets while intricate carving and first class inlay craftsmanship bring the dragon to life with an incredible 3D effect.

Incredibly detailed scales, a fierce looking eye and snarling teeth presented with this care and artistry make this guitar a wonder to behold.

A True Collector’s Item

The PRS Dragon 2002, fitting to the celebration of the PRS Dragon’s 10th anniversary, was made to be a true collector’s item.

Production was strictly limited to only 100 ever being produced and each PRS Dragon 2002 is individually numbered on the back of the headstock.

Carlos Santa is a noted owner of the PRS Dragon 2002, with his own PRS Dragon 2002 being #53 of the run. PMT are proud to be able to present you with #12.

This PRS Dragon 2002, #12 of 100 was assembled on 22nd October 2002 by renowned specialist guitar luthier Eric Granroth.

Upon acquiring this piece, you will be presented with a certificate of ownership that will be personalised with your name and the date on which the purchase was made.
