CD Decks

From the birth of hip-hop in the late 70s, use of the turntable and mixing was developing as an art form rather than just playing records. DJs all over the world including Kool DJ HercGrandmaster Flash and even the UK's own John Peel started blending tracks together into one long mix, keeping the crowd dancing all night.

The introduction of technology such as the pitch control and direct drive platters on the Technics SL1200MK2 gave DJs a turntable which could accurately beat-match tracks. As vinyl moved to a niche for music collectors the CD platform took over. Development of the CD deck and CDJ meant features such as vinyl emulation, looping and hot-cueing opened up new creative possibilities and the CDJ now has a permanent home at clubs worldwide as well as at Professional Music Technology.
