PMT Northampton is a music store located in the heart of Northampton town, just over 3 miles from junction 15 of the M1, with a large public car park to the rear of the shop.

Covering two floors, the downstairs showroom displays around 450-500 guitars and basses, with all instruments and amplifiers available to try out in our private demo booth. Keyboards and pianos, recording equipment and PA departments complete the ground floor, while the first floor is entirely dedicated to acoustic and electric drum kits and percussion. In all departments we aim to let you make your own choices by listening and playing, and will always give you as much time as you need to feel happy.

Whether you want to see how your old PA system can be improved by a new mixer, or you want to try out new microphones and audio interfaces for your laptop, bring it in, we'll plug it all in and let you hear the difference in our music store. And if you're new to computer-based recording products, bring in your laptop and we will install your new software or audio interface for you, and make sure that you leave the shop with a ready-to-go system. We offer appointments for in-depth consultations and training on every day except Saturdays. Our staff have a genuine wealth of experience and expertise within all aspects of music performance and production, so when you need advice please don't hesitate to ask.

There are also guitar, drum and music tech events held at the Northampton Music Shop. See what’s happening at your local PMT Store here.

We look forward to welcoming you to our music shop!

Keyboard, Recording & Live Sound Expert

Here at PMT I specialise in pianos and keyboards, computer-based products and recording equipment, and PA/live sound. Before joining PMT I was a freelance recording engineer for 5 years, working predominantly with classical music and jazz labels, and I continue to record and release a few CDs of both music and spoken word audiobooks every year. Prior to that I worked at HHB London and SADiE, supplying recording and mastering equipment to studios worldwide, and training new users in recording, editing and production techniques. So if you're looking to get your sound out to the world, come and see me. I also enjoy geeky discussions about modular synths, either with or without cats.

Electric Guitar Expert: Fender, Gibson & All Things Pedals

I'm part of the guitar team here at PMT Northampton. I have worked within the store for 5 years, in which time I have gained a great deal of knowledge on the gear we sell. I am passionate about guitar tone, and really get a kick out of helping customers find the sound they're after. Whether that is trying a different pick or set of strings, a complete set-up overhaul, or simply a new way of looking at their pedal board! Aside from working at the shop, I have played in various bands for the last 15 years or so. I have a vast amount of touring experience, as well as a great deal of knowledge on the music industry in general. Next time you're in Northampton swing by the store and check out the huge range of guitars, amps, pedals and accessories we have in stock! Can't make it into the store? Then feel free to give me a call or drop me an email, I'd be happy to help!

Drum Expert

I have been with PMT for 6 years. I take pride in the aesthetics of the store and as a result have taken responsibility of the visual merchandising for all departments. I have travelled the world and performed with many bands, as well as writing music for the likes of MTV and Sony. My music has been used on shows like 'The Inbetweeners', 'Greys Anatomy', 'Jersey Shore' and many more. This has given me an insight in to a world that allows me to use my own experiences to relate to many of the players that shop with us. I believe I take my vast knowledge of products and my own personal endeavours to give them a greater shopping experience and a deeper level of confidence that they may not receive elsewhere.

Bass Guitar Expert

My name is Heath Randall, and I have worked and taught within the music industry for the last 20 years.

In this time I have played in all situations and all styles of music, which gives me a huge wealth of knowledge when it comes to working at PMT.

I feel that I can greet customers with full confidence knowing that I will be able fulfill their needs, from beginners to full time professionals, and give them great product info - because as a passionate working player myself I can see where our customers are coming from.

Electric Guitar Expert: Ibanez, Schecter & Metal Stuffz

Hey I'm James. I work in the guitar department and I am deemed the 'shredder' of the store. I've been playing electric guitar for the best part of 10 years in many bands and genres of music. Aside from the playing, I'm one of the younger members of the PMT Northampton crew. I feel I communicate well with the younger ages as we all share an interest in the latest news, gear, music, gadgets, etc. I might be one of the youngest but that doesn't mean I don't have the knowledge! Come down for a chat and see what you can learn from myself and any of the guys at PMT Northampton, we all look forward to meeting you!

Guitar Expert

Known commonly as Jay, I am currently the youngest member of the team here at PMT Northampton. I have been playing guitar for the best part of a decade and have a vast product knowledge that I’ve accumulated working in the music retail industry. I take on a lot of the returns and repairs that come through the shop, whether it’s replacing a snapped string or rewiring a guitar, I always take great pride in my work. I also enjoy helping customers find the products they require to get that sound they've been seeking, however weird or wonderful they may be. Although I am a member of the guitar department I am also interested in home recording and electronic music production, so next time you're in Northampton pop by our music shop and see how we can help you.

Perfect sandwich filling? Bacon.
If you could live in any state in America, which would it be? New England.
If you were on Death Row, what would be your last meal request? Bacon Sandwich. I love bacon.
Favourite all-time film? 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop'.
Do you have any non-music related hobbies outside of work? Swimming.
What’s your best cocktail drink? Grasshopper.

Drum Specialist

What was your first instrument? I got my first drum kit when I was 2 years old, but also started playing guitar when I was around 7/8.
What is the coolest gig you have ever played? Last year at Tech Fest, we played the main stage. We also got to watch Sikth play the very same stage the next day which was quite humbling.
Last track played on your iPod? Groove Armada - Superstylin'. Big party tune.
If you were on Death Row, what would be your last meal request? A tough one… Definitely either a fat burrito or some sort of cheesy pasta dish. I love all food though!
Most embarrassing gig story? Recently, I dropped a stick that fell down the back of the stage. I soon realized that I hadn't brought any of spares with me, so I had to play one-handed until someone very kindly brought me a spare stick. Schoolboy error!
Who are three people or bands who have highly influenced you in music? Neil Peart from Rush initially got me into drumming, so he is a huge one for me. Benny Greb has got to be one of my biggest influences - the man is a groove machine! and last but not least my Dad – he’s taught me most of what I know today.
