PMT MEGA SALE NOW ON! - Click here for more info!

PMT Manchester is a 12,000 square foot music store packed with guitars, amps, drums, keyboards, PA equipment and much more musical equipment and instruments.

Less than a minute from the end of the M62 (with plenty of free parking), this music store is home to a Yamaha Pulse and Roland Planet concessions with our very own experts in place to offer you detailed product information and advice.

PMT Manchester houses a live stage set up where you can test PA speakers, a soundproof hi-tech studio for monitoring, an acoustic room with Martin and Taylor and Washburn walls, a full first floor of drums and arguably one of the biggest guitar walls in the country with Fender, Gibson, Epiphone, and Ibanez guitars to name but a few.

We also have a café area, where you can enjoy a quick drink and snack whilst being surrounded by our signed memorabilia from people such as Ian Brown, Doves, Billy Sheehan, White Snake, Guy Pratt, Mike Harding, White Lies, The Courteeners and Trivium. Plus, there are guitar, drum and music tech events held at the Manchester Music Shop. See what’s happening at your local PMT Store here.

We also have a large selection of pre-loved and second-hand items, and a band wall where local bands post their requests for musicians.

So fancy trying that new Fender Stratocaster? Or does the new Gibson SG take your fancy instead? Come on in and let our friendly staff help you! We too are all musicians, so we are always happy to help.

Store Manager

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years now and worked in music shops for over 20 of those years, so most of my life and career is based in and around music! I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some very talented musicians and perform on stage with a few famous ones as well, including touring with Peter Hook (New Order) as his bass player in 1999 and writing music with Guy Garvey.
As well as advising on your next guitar purchase (I myself currently play a Gibson SG Standard and Fender American Standard Strat – left-handed, of course!), you can also chat to me about PA. I've engineered a tonne of gigs and understand the frustrations that bands face when trying to make the best of their current systems. So whether you need advice on how to use your equipment better or need some new gear, it's always good to see you in PMT!

My main role is to look after the boys at PMT, and I’m lucky that they’re well-behaved! You’ll usually see me running round the store – it’s pretty non-stop in PMT Manchester but it’s a great place to be. Apart from keeping an eye on the boys my other main priority is making sure you get what you need – and if it’s guitars you’re after I am more than happy to help! Owning six electric guitars myself (my favourites being my Fender Custom Jazzmaster and Masterbuild Esquire) and the world’s biggest pedal board, I’m your main man for FX pedals and understanding how to get the sounds you want. I love my vintage pedals but I’m also partial to effects from Electro-Harmonix, Voodoo Labs and I’m really into the BOSS RC300 Loop Station at the minute too... is it really that obvious that I used to be a techno DJ?

Acoustic Guitar Specialist

I’m Tony and I’m the mean-picker at the Manchester music shop, with 20 years under by belt in the music industry. I’m also the store’s acoustic guitar specialist and if you give me any stringed instrument I’ll play it! If you’re in need of any lovely Martin, Taylor or Fender acoustic please come over to me and I will help you find your perfect guitar. Outside of the store I’m a gigging musician in a skiffle band called ‘Ramblin' Riversiders’, which believe it or not I’m the youngest member of (our oldest member is 79!).
Phil Westwood

Phil Westwood

Drum Expert

I’m Phil Westwood, aka ‘Pesky’. I’ve been playing drums since the tender age of seven and now play for a few well-known and respected Pink Floyd tribute bands alongside working in PMT Manchester. I can also restore, service and tune percussion and drum gear, so if you’re looking to spruce up your kit I’m your man! I’m endorsed by Van Kleef Custom Drums, Protection Racket Drum Cases and Evans Drumheads too, so if you want to come and chat about these brands in the shop I’m the all-knowing drum guru.
Mel Stewart

Mel Stewart

Drum and Percussion Specialist

I have been working in music retail for almost 5 years and playing drums for over 15. I am currently using and abusing DW, Mapex, Zildjian and Roland. My favourite aspect of this job is ensuring all my customers leave here happy, with the best gear for their requirements and a few smiles along the way. My clientele range from the absolute beginner to the touring professional and everyone in between. Be it Acoustic or Electronic, whether you are on a shoestring budget or looking to make a serious investment, I am always here to help. Outside of working in the store, I play in 2 or 3 original bands on both a permanent or session basis and I am also involved with a number of function bands. I am currently developing 'MDC-Manchester Drummers Collective' as an outlet to share my passion and knowledge with other players.

Guitar, Hi-Tech & Studio Specialist

I’m David and I like to think of myself as a ‘foundation of all knowledge’ at the Manchester music shop! With Manchester having loads of varied and niche bands I’m very much an all-rounder when it comes to finding the perfect effects for your guitar; whether you need some psychedelic phasing or saturated sounds for your heavy metal band come over and have a chat and I’ll knock some gear up that’s tailored to your sound. I’m very partial to my 16 year-old beat-up Fender Mexican Stratocaster too and if you’re looking for a guitar for life come over to me and I’ll help you to find The One.
Outside of the store I produce and record for bands up and down the country, so I’m a bit of an expert when it comes to studio and hi-tech equipment too. If you’re ever having problems with your monitors, don’t know what microphone is best for your needs, or are just simply looking for a sexy new synth come over and I’ll help you out. I’m also big into Native Instrument’s music producing software and use ProTools and Logic Pro X at home to create my own House/Electronica music, so if you’re a music producer and want some tips I’ll be happy to chat with you for hours!

Guitar, Hi-Tech & Studio Specialist

Working in PMT Manchester is like Christmas day nearly every day for a massive guitar geek like me, because there’s always new and exciting gear coming in that I get to test out before everyone else! I’m really into finding new and exciting effects for guitars (I’m currently addicted to buying fuzz pedals for some obscure reason), so if you want to come and experiment with the tonne of FX pedals we have in store then please do. Music is pretty much my life and outside of work I’m the guitarist in the rock band Obsessive Compulsive. We’ve just done a tour in America and we will be touring in Germany soon too!
Greg Turner

PA Specialist

Before I came to the Manchester music shop I was a freelance sound engineer for 5 years, so I’ve got loads of experience in setting up PA systems for musicians to make sure they always get the best sound at gigs – and I can do that for you too in PMT Manchester! No matter what music you play I can help you decide on what speakers, mixers, cables and microphones you need for your live performances and I can also enlighten you on tricks of the trade to make sure your set up is spot on at every time. I’m a resident DJ in the Northern Quarter and I’m currently using Yamaha mixers and RCF speakers for my own sets; they’re really great for my Hip Hop and Soul tracks!

Roland Planet Specialist

I run the store’s Roland Planet where you can find all of the latest and greatest Roland and Boss products on demo, from compact guitar pedals all the way up to the flagship V-Drum electronic drum kits and everything in between! I’m on hand to offer expert advice and support; you can basically ask me anything about Roland and Boss equipment, I’m always happy to help you find the right product for your needs. I’m a gigging guitarist myself so appreciate a lot of the frustrations of performing live and I really enjoying helping people overcome these issues with the right bit of gear.
I’m a bit of a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ when it comes to music, so although guitar is my main instrument, I’m really into keyboards/synths as well as studio production and recording. Outside of work I gig with a couple of bands and spend a lot of time writing and recording music. I’m a big fan of 90’s American Alternative rock but I’m sure whatever you’re into we can find some common ground!
Sam North

Sam North

High-Tech and PA Specialist

Hello there, I’m Sam and you’ll find me making loads of noise demoing PA rigs at PMT Manchester! Apart from making a racket in store, my aim is to help you get what you need to make your music events sound amazing from the start to finish; time and time again. I do this by first helping you get your PA rig right from the very beginning with the gear you need and showing you how to set it up perfectly – but my service doesn’t end there. If you want to mix it up at your gig in the future, you can always come back to the store and I’ll help you to do that too.
Some of my favourite brands include RCF speakers, Bose and Yamaha drums... speaking of drums, I’m also a Jazz drummer, influenced by Buddy Rich and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band – and you can find me playing at weddings, conferences, parties and gigs! And when I’m not playing sessions and working in the music shop you’ll find me chowing down on a good old lamb Rogan Josh.
