Excellent Birmingham store service - Dave A****
I was greeted by a chap called Dave and i explained i was interested in buying another guitar, a Fender Stratocaster to be precise. I explained i wanted to try a few options and in particular i was attracted to flashy looking guitars. I selected several to play and Dave took me to a practice room where i spent a couple of hours playing different guitars. His knowledge was excellent and he was very patient. Dave listened to what i wanted as a musician and provided the right equipment when i needed it followed by advice on the differences between each one. I settled on a very good guitar and a couple of pedals. If you are going to buy from PMT, GO TO THE BIRMINGHAM STORE.

Overview

Year upon year, the master luthiers at Gibson Custom Shop have managed to tweak and improve the performance and playability of the iconic 50s Les Pauls. This 1959 re-issue utilises VOS (Vintage Original Spec) appointments and vintage building techniques. Easily one of the most visually stunning Les Pauls ever!

Historically accurate aniline dye, hide glue neck construction and PAF tone

The maple top and Sunrise TeaBurst finish on the 1959 model really has to be seen to be appreciated. GorHand picked maple and mahogany, combined with new building techniques this year allowed Gibson to really show off the flame top. While the 1959 Les Paul Standard retained the classic ingredients that made the '58 so revered, refinements to the slimmer neck profile and heel have made this one of the sweetest-playing guitars ever made.

This guitar also benefits from Gibson Custom' 20th Anniversary Specifications, newly adopted for 2013. These include a one-piece rosewood fingerboard, Kluson Deluxe machine heads, hot-hide glue neck fit, a Historic Truss Rod assembly with no tubing, accurate body and fingerboard binding color, new Custom Buckers created in the image of the original PAFs, and period-correct Aniline dye offered in VOS and Gloss.

Gibson Custom' new Custom Bucker accurately recreates the original PAFs of the late 50s, using Alnico III magnets and unequal turns of 42 AWG wire in each coil for that characteristic PAF bite. These pickups clean up beautifully at the guitar' volume controls, while Bumble Bee tone caps assist in that warm, singing œwoman tone when you roll back the tone controls.

To top it all off, the 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue plays superbly right out of its Custom Shop hardshell case thanks to a trip through one of Gibson' state-of-the-art Plek machines before it leaves the Custom Shop floor.
