Overview

This Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul reissue is one of the most detailed, period-correct guitars from the Gibson Custom Shop we've ever seen. Sporting a legendary Gold Top, with its lightly aged finish, it actually looks like it's a proper guitar bought in 1957 - even down to the hide glue techniques originally used over 50 years ago.

A classic, reborn!

For many it's the original and best, the Gibson Les Paul delivers all the vintage flavour of the 50's. The '57 Les Paul Goldtop features a traditional mahogany arched top, offering up the solidbody sustain and tone that have made the Les Paul such a superb all-rounder for decades. The 1957 release of the Gold Top was the last time it was in production until 1968, where it was back in demand by the general public for its gorgeous good looks.

Gibsons Custom Shop luthiers have re-issued the 1957 Les Paul with the same level of meticulous detail they have become renowned for on their Collector's Choice and Historic Standard guitars. The original Hide Glue used on the 50's models has been re-employed for a more authentic build and feel. The headstock is made from Holly head veneer, as opposed to fiber, just like it was in 1957, and the vintage-style Kluson green tuners are mounted in a straight line, also as they were on the original. The 24 3/4-inch scale length neck is made from one solid piece of mahogany, and attached to the body using a long neck tenon - one of the Les Paul's more distinguishing characteristics of the 1950s.

The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop was also the model used famously by Duane Allman during the formative years of the Allman Brothers Band and his early session work, including his work with Eric Clapton (Layla sessions), the Allman Brothers Band's legendary Fillmore recordings, as well as their first two albums - a body of work considered by many to be one of the most important in the history of rock and roll.
