Ace guitarist Aziz Ibrahim - who's played with The Stone Roses, Simply Red, Ian Brown and Paul Weller - is coming for a very special "meet and greet" at PMT Birmingham, on Thursday 22nd September.
Aziz Ibrahim will be paying a visit to PMT Birmingham next week, for an informal meet and greet with the fans, and to talk a bit more about his career and gear. This will be an unique opportunity to meet one of the most accomplished guitarists working in the UK right now, and one of the best to ever come from Manchester. The event is FREE, and Aziz will be in-store from 1pm.
About Aziz Ibrahim
Aziz has a remarkable CV that includes work with some truly legendary names in British music - including playing with The Stone Roses at their Reading Festival gig in 1996 - a task Noel Gallagher dubbed "the hardest job in the world", because Aziz was replacing none other than John Squire - a controversial job, to say the least!
Today, Aziz is still a very well-respected name in the industry, and keeps busy working on several projects (including with Mike Joyce from The Smiths) and doing charity work. A couple of years ago, members of The Smiths, Oasis, Primal Scream, XTC and more appeared at The Roadhouse in Manchester, for a charity party marking his 50th birthday. This is a testament to how respected and liked Aziz is among his peers, but Aziz has done much more, too: his commitment to community causes includes giving guitar lessons and mentoring sessions for prisoners in a re-integration program and providing Music Therapy for hospice patients, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth recognized Ibrahim’s contributions to Great Britain’s economy, culture, and the music industry in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in 2005, along with Brian May, Jeff Beck and the Bee Gees. He is also a recipient of the UK Jinnah award, for outstanding achievement in music.
Aziz is a man with many stories to tell, but you'll have to come to PMT Birmingham to hear them... including what happened to John Squire's old Gibson ES-345 that appears on the Love Spreads video, and why the Stone Roses considered asking Slash to join the band!
Not to mention, Aziz has an enviable fx pedal collection, and will be more than happy to talk about his favourite gear, too!
Aziz will also be playing at the Hare and Hounds in Birmingham on 22nd September. For more tour dates, click here.
